The MEGA Dream ex subset largely contains reprints of various notable Pokémon and Trainer cards released in 2024 and 2025, including reprints of Pokémon ex, Tera Pokémon ex and Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards. This set also debuts many new Mega Evolution Pokémon and characters introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, such as Mega Dragonite and Mega Eelektross as Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Canari as a Supporter card. It also introduces a new Mirror Holofoil Energy pattern and various Poké Ball patterns that can appear on Pokémon cards. Trainer's Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon can have a Mirror Holofoil featuring a regular Poké Ball, and most other Pokémon feature one of a Friend Ball, Love Ball, Dusk Ball, or Quick Ball. Mirror Holofoil Team Rocket's Pokémon feature the Team Rocket logo instead of a Poké Ball, but are still eligible to have an Energy symbol pattern.
MEGA Dream ex introduces a new rarity of Pokémon cards, known as "MA" or "Mega attack rare" (Japanese: メガアタックレア).[1] Cards with the Mega attack rare rarity are Full Art Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards rendered in a pop art style, with the card's highlight attack written with large text on the foreground. The attack text differs between the Japanese and English localizations; the English card art has Japanese text for the card's attack and vice versa. This stylization is reminiscent of Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX cards released during the XY Series.
MEGA Dream ex is released in Japan on November 28, 2025, followed by localized releases in Traditional Chinese on December 5, 2025, in Thai on January 16, 2026, in Korean on January 23, 2026, and in Indonesian on January 30, 2026. In Thailand and Indonesia, MEGA Dream ex is the third main expansion of cards, and is considered a main expansion instead of a subset (numbered "MA3" instead of the expected "MA2a" in those localizations).
Each booster pack of MEGA Dream ex contains 10 cards, one of which is guaranteed to be a Pokémon ex or Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. Each booster box contains 10 booster packs.[2] Cards other than Pokémon ex or Mega Evolution Pokémon ex do not have rarity symbols. Cards released in this subset are included in the English Ascended Heroes expansion.
