List of moveset changes in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
While movesets in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon are derived from the core series, they are not always exactly the same.
As a general note, in at least the older games, if a Pokémon learns multiple moves at the same level, it will attempt to learn only one of them at random. However, this only matters for Deoxys, as every other species can use the Move Relearner service.
Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team
Uses Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen movesets, except for:
- Move tutors and Egg Moves do not exist. As such, Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon are instead all available after reaching Lv. 99 with at least 333 points of IQ.
- Pichu learns Volt Tackle after reaching Lv. 50 with at least 333 points of IQ.
- All forms of Deoxys are available in the game with their respective movesets; the game chooses the current one at random.
- Vacuum Cut and Wide Slash are special moves present via TMs that can be taught to certain Pokémon with otherwise intentionally limited movesets, such as Ditto.
- TMs for Double Team, Hail, Rain Dance, Rock Tomb, Sandstorm, Snatch and Sunny Day do not exist.
- It is possible for a Pokémon to know multiple instances of the same move.
- Charmander evolutionary family has both SmokeScreen and Rage assigned at Lv. 19/20.
- Charizard learns SmokeScreen at Lv. 1 as well as Lv. 20.
- Caterpie, Weedle, Spinarak's evolutionary family, and Wurmple all learn String Shot at Lv. 2 instead of 1.
- Vileplume learns Mega Drain at Lv. 5 instead of 1.
- Ponyta evolutionary family has both Tackle and Quick Attack assigned at Lv. 1.
- Exeggcute learns Uproar and Barrage at Lv. 2 and 3, respectively, instead of 1.
- Igglybuff learns Pound at Lv. 1 as well as Lv. 9, Sing is learned at Lv. 2 instead of 1.
- Sudowoodo learns Mimic at Lv. 10 instead of 1.
- Jumpluff does not learn Synthesis and Tail Whip at Lv. 1, unlike Skiploom.
- Scizor has both Double Team and Iron Defense assigned at Lv. 41.
- Pupitar learns Sandstorm at Lv. 2 and 8 instead of 1 and 8.
- Sealeo learns Encore at Lv. 1 as well as Lv. 7.
Excess Lv. 1 moves
Due to the way the game's engine is coded, it does not handle a Pokémon having more than 4 Lv. 1 moves very well, which leads to excess moves being pushed to Lv. 2.
Note that there are few Pokémon who had their moves bumped to a higher level despite having less than 4 Lv. 1 moves; these are mentioned in the section above.
- Charizard's Ember and Metal Claw
- Venomoth's Foresight
- Victreebel's Razor Leaf, Spit Up, and Swallow
- Rapidash's Ember
- Dewgong's Growl
- Hypno's Pound
- Kingler's Metal Claw

- Move tutors do not exist. As such, Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Draco Meteor are instead all available after reaching Lv. 72 with at least 300 points of IQ.

- TMs for Double Team, Hail, Rain Dance, Rock Tomb, Sandstorm, Snatch and Sunny Day do not exist.
