Legends Awakened's name is based on the Legendary Pokémon Heatran and Regigigas, who are featured in the set and its Theme Decks along with a reference of the latter's necessary awakening in the Snowpoint Temple. It is also the first set since Secret Wonders to contain an entire Japanese set, with the two sets in-between, Great Encounters and Majestic Dawn, both containing parts of Moonlit Pursuit/Dawn Dash. Due to an increased number of English sets, Legends Awakened sets the number of English expansions back in line with the number of Japanese expansions.
Until the release of Supreme Victors, Legends Awakened, with its 146 cards, was the largest set since Skyridge, which to this day remains the second-largest set in the history of the Pokémon TCG, behind only Aquapolis. Overall, Legends Awakened is tied for seventh-largest English-language set in the history of the TCG with XY, behind Supreme Victors, Boundaries Crossed, Primal Clash and the three e-Card sets.
