Statues of Latias and Latios in Alto Mare
Latios and his sister Latias lived in the Secret Garden in Alto Mare, where they were the guardians of the Soul Dew. They were friends with Lorenzo and Bianca. Latios and Latias presented some very unique powers in the movie, such as sight-sharing, invisibility and shape shifting.
At the end of the movie, Latios had to sacrifice himself to save Alto Mare, and turned into the new Soul Dew, just like his father in the past. In the ending credits, two Latios can be seen flying with Latias. They are believed to be the spirits of Latios and his father.
In The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon, Latios was seen in Pikachu's memories. It also briefly reappeared in a montage in The Rise of Darkrai, which chronicled the preceding nine movies.
Personality and characteristics
Latios after sacrificing himself
Latios has shown to have been a very mature and selfless protector, valiantly sacrificing his own life for the sake of both his sister and the town of Alto Mare. It also had a no-nonsense, very serious personality.
Although he did not like to fight, he would attack intruders of the Secret Garden without hesitation or anyone attempting or succeeding to inflict harm on his sister Latias. As a result of his personality traits, he was extremely protective of Latias.

In the TCG
- Latios is the first of a few Pokémon in the anime who perished in the present day and were never brought back to life.
- Latios's original voice wasn't retained in the dub, which opted to use Latias's Japanese voice actor instead.
- In Pokémon Adventures, Latios and Latias are shown being capable of using a sight-sharing power similar to that used by Latios and Latias in Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias.
