Diana and Hamber are walking side by side in a forest after the latter helped the former catch a new Pokémon. At a crossroad, Hamber prepares to return to the Explorers to finish his business despite Diana suggesting he leave. He gives Diana information about Spinel and the Six Heroes as repayment for Liko's help with Amethio. Musing how he never expected to ally with his old friend once more, both Hamber and Diana agree the ones who are essential for Spinel's downfall are the ones who inherited Gibeon's and Lucius's wills — Amethio and Liko. After declaring he will not lose his way again and that the feud shall end, Hamber parts ways with Diana amicably.
Meanwhile, Ult loses the two Explorers he was chasing until Sableye senses something. Following his Pokémon, Ult finds Indi and Rubina entering an Explorers base and follow them inside, witnessing them interacting with Spinel. Unfortunately, they get caught by Spinel's Beheeyem. Before Ult can initiate a battle, an oppressive force sends him and Sableye to the ground as the three Explorers approach them. Spinel figures Ult is the newest member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, leading to Ult to introduce himself as he throws Sableye out of the way, allowing it to escape while Ult is captured. As he is taken somewhere, Ult notices some Pokémon trapped in boxes. At the same time, Sableye manages to find Roy, Crocalor, and Captain Pikachu and brings them to the base they found earlier. Unbeknownst to the group, they are being watched by Spinel, who is joined by Chalce. She feels that Spinel is acting too hastily even though he is capable to bringing down the Rising Volt Tacklers at any point. Spinel doesn't deny it, but points out not only are the Rising Volt Tacklers becoming stronger, but that he is aware of Amethio acting behind the scenes. Not keen on repeating Gibeon's mistakes, Spinel seeks to eliminate everyone opposing him as soon as possible.
Ult lays down on the bed in the room he's being held captive in and calls Sableye before remembering he sent it away earlier. Taking out his Dusk Ball, Ult attempts to get Dragonite to get him out, but it doesn't respond, making him feel regretful for running away in the first place. Just as he decides to find a way out, something suddenly hits the door. A few more hits causes the door to break down, revealing none other than Lucario, with Roy appearing behind right after. The boys awkwardly talk before escaping, only to be caught by Indi and Rubina in the process. In preparation for a battle, Roy and Ult send out their Pokémon while Indi and Rubina exchange theirs. When both Darmanitan come out, they activate their Hidden Ability, Zen Mode, transforming them into Zen Mode. After using the Strong Spheres on both Darmanitan, Sableye and Lucario make the first attack, but it does not do much damage. Rubina calls for four Rabsca, which are also under the influence of Laquium. The Rolling Pokémon float over and immediately let out an oppressive force that sends everyone, including Kilowattrel, to the ground. Ult realizes it's the same feeling as earlier as Rubina reveals it's Rabsca's Gravity at work. However, Galarian Darmanitan is able to still move around, despite Gravity also affecting it, thanks to Darmanitan using Psychic. As a result of the combination of Psychic and Gravity, it proves to be difficult to land any attacks. Roy has his Pokémon shield Sableye so that it can use Shadow Sneak on Darmanitan to stop it from using Psychic, while Cap uses Volt Tackle, while using Gravity to accelerate, to knock it out. Indi isn't fazed and calls for a Rabsca, which uses Revival Blessing to revive Darmanitan. With both Darmanitan back on their feet, they manage to overwhelm Roy and Ult's Pokémon.
Seeing the scene in front of him, Ult wants to do something to save everyone. He brings out his Dusk Ball and pleads for Dragonite to help him save everyone, remembering his father's words to Dragonite. The Dragon Pokémon comes out and is immediately suppressed by Gravity. Ult encourages Dragonite, causing it and Ult's Mega Ring to glow. While surprised, Ult Mega Evolves Dragonite into Mega Dragonite and orders it to use Dragon Rush that successfully defeats all the Rabsca. With Gravity no longer in effect, Roy Mega Evolves Lucario into Mega Lucario, and the two Mega Pokémon defeat the two Darmanitan.
After leaving the base, Roy congratulates Ult on gaining Dragonite's approval. However, Ult doesn't agree, saying that he wants to be strongest with the purpose of protecting the people he cares about as only then will he gain Dragonite's approval. With the promise of protecting Roy, the two boys and their Pokémon return to the Brave Olivine. After explaining what happened earlier, Ult meets with Mollie, who advises him based on her own experience. While confused, Ult thanks Mollie for not telling anyone about him running away. Later outside the observation deck, Ult warms up to being part of the Rising Volt Tacklers.
