Effect

Held item

It contains a message with up to three sentence slots which can be filled with words and phrases using the predefined list from the easy chat system. For instance, the player can select the sentence "I love ______________!" and insert the word "BULBASAUR". This was designed to be readable in games of any language.

The player writes the message when giving this item to be held by a Pokémon. The message can be sent to other games of the same generation by trading the Pokémon holding this item.

The message remains available as long as this item is held by a Pokémon or stored in the Mailbox. This item is unable to have any message when stored in the Bag or in the Item Storage System, but there is the option to delete any existing message when storing this item in these places. Once the message is deleted from this item, the player is able to reuse it with a new message. A Pokémon holding this item cannot be placed in the PC or in the Pokémon Day Care. The message is not readable in Pokémon Battle Revolution or in My Pokémon Ranch. As with other held items, a Pokémon holding this item cannot be transferred into Generation V games through the Poké Transfer or Relocator.

This item can be removed by Knock Off. However, it cannot be stolen by Covet or Thief, it causes Fling to fail when used by the holder, and causes Switcheroo or Trick to fail when used by or on the holder.

Webster's mail

This page is in need of spading. See its section on the spading page for more information, and how you can help.
Reason:
  • Does this check for the Pokémon species?
    • If Kenya the Spearow has evolved into Fearow, will it be considered a different Pokémon and returned to the player?
  • Does this check for the Pokémon's OT name, OT ID, and nickname?
    • If the player has the same OT name and ID as Kenya the Spearow, what if they catch any wild Spearow and name it "Kenya"? Will it be considered the "true" Kenya and kept by the non-player character?
    • If the player has the same OT name and ID as Kenya the Spearow, they will presumably be able to change "Kenya" into another nickname. Then will it be considered a different Pokémon and returned to the player after delivering the mail?
  • If the player writes the same mail from scratch on a Grass Mail, can it be delivered? What if the player is also named "Webster"? (since the player name appears as the letter signature)
    • If this works, can the player write the same message on a mail item other than Grass Mail and still deliver it?
  • About trades:
    • If the player trades a Pokémon holding this mail, can the mail still be successfully delivered in a different saved game? What if this is attempted between games of different languages?
    • If the player trades Kenya the Spearow into another saved game, and uses it to deliver the mail, will it still be considered the same Pokémon and kept by the non-player character? What if this is attempted between games of different languages (where Kenya has a different nickname and OT name)?
For the Generation II version of Webster's mail, see Flower Mail → Webster's mail.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can deliver a Grass Mail from Webster on Route 35 to a non-player character on Route 31 in exchange for a TM44 (Rest). While it is originally held by a Spearow named Kenya, the player can deliver the mail with any Pokémon. If the mail is delivered when held by a Pokémon other than the designated Spearow, said Pokémon will be returned to the player afterwards. Reporting the successful delivery also earns the player an HP Up.
