Francois (Japanese: フランソワーズ Françoise) is a Magnemite and the only Ren's known Pokémon.

History

Ren adopting Francois

Pre-series

In the past, Francois was a Magnemite who lived in an old themed restaurant that Ren frequented. As time went on, the restaurant was forced to close. This made Ren decide to adopt Magnemite, but Magnemite was reluctant and ran away. Ren went in search of the Pokémon, and he eventually found it next to several lamps that were thrown in the trash. Ren decided to name the Magnemite Francois and make it as comfortable as possible, starting with an old chandelier that Ren had at home and that Francois felt an affinity for.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Francois and Ren

Francois was seen for the first time in the Best Friend...Worst Nightmare!, when the power of Cerise Laboratory went out. Ren head down to the basement to investigate what caused the blackout and he called Francois out of its Poké Ball to assist him. During the time in the basement, Ren and Francois was ambushed by a Gengar that haunted Cerise Laboratory. Ren commanded Francois to use Thunder Wave, but it was tangled in some electrical cords, and Gengar attack them with Night Shade. When Professor Cerise and Chrysa arrived, they found Francois still tangled in the cords. They freed it and Francois brought them to where Ren was Ren.

In A Rollicking Roll..., it was with Ren researching an incident with the Gulpin in Vermilion City.

Francois reappeared in Sleuths for Truth!, when Inspector Decker checked all of the Electric-type Pokémon at Cerise Laboratory against an eyewitness drawing of a culprit involved in the theft of electricity.

In It's All in the Name!, when a solar flare affected a man-made satellite causing a signal to be emitted on Vermilion City, causing all Magnemite to lose control, Francois donned a tinfoil hat to block the signal. Things turned disastrous when the rampaging Magnemite started to chase Francois in order to force it to join the group, which inadvertently succeeded when Francois' tinfoil hat was destroyed while defending Ren from attacking Magnemite. Soon all the Magnemite were gathering in a single spot attempting a massive scale evolution into a new organism. Thanks to Pikachu's efforts the Magnemite were distracted while Francois was easily secured due to its eating habits isolating it.

Personality and characteristics

Francois was a wild urban Pokémon which loved frequenting an antique-themed café as it liked to absorb electricity from antiquities. As Ren frequented the café the two grew closer until the café closed, after which Ren took after it and gave it its nickname. Although a picky eater, Ren accommodates as much as he can to its tastes. Francois in turn is fond of Ren and shown to be very protective. Although its species is generally genderless, Ren uses both a female name and denominators for it.

Francois seems to be loyal to its Trainer and a helpful Pokémon.
