This print was subsequently available in the Japanese Shiny Star V subset. A new print with artwork by Shigenori Negishi featuring the Shiny version of Flapple included in the Shining Fates expansion, which also saw release in the Japanese Shiny Star V subset. Rulings
On September 11, 2025, the official Pokémon website announced that this card is to be banned from all sanctioned Pokémon TCG tournaments using the Expanded format, starting from October 10, 2025 onward. The stated reason for the ban is the introduction of the Forest of Vitality Stadium card from the Mega Evolution expansion, which, in combination with various draw cards, allows the player to loop Flapple's Apple Drop Ability by evolving Applin into it repeatedly in a single turn, effectively dealing an unlimited amount of damage.[1]
The ban was previously announced on the official Japanese Pokémon TCG website on July 31, 2025, to take effect beginning August 1, 2025.[2] The reason for the ban on the Japanese website is not officially stated, but Japanese Pokémon TCG players had pointed towards the Forest of Vitality combo as the reason.[3][4][5]
Trivia
Origin
Acid Spray is a move in the Pokémon games that Flapple can learn. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Sword. The Shining Fates print features the Shiny version of Flapple. Milo is featured in the Astral Radiance print's illustration, who uses a Flapple in all Pokémon Sword battles following his initial Gym battle.
