Pokémon Card e Series
We co-developed the e-Reader peripheral for the Game Boy Advance with Nintendo and Olympus. Players could enjoy minigames and movies by scanning the 2D barcode printed on Pokémon cards. By distributing programs via Pokémon cards, we created an experience similar to deck building. The key example of this is the "Construction: Action" game, where you can construct a map and play. In the Pokémon TCG, we also implemented "hidden attacks" in which part of the attack's effect is random. "The hard part was the durability testing. From morning until night, I swiped the cards over and over until the card couldn't be read." (Masamichi Anazawa) (December 1, 2001)
