Prior to the start of the series, Coconut lived in an unnamed city with her famously intelligent parents. She first appeared in Eevee... Pokémon Genius! to visit her grandfather, leading her to meet Hazel and Almond. Hazel instantly developed a rivalry with her after seeing her try to become closer to Almond. The two agreed to compete for Almond's affection with a chocolate-making contest, saying the winner would be the first to receive chocolates back from him. Coconut attempted to make a love potion to bake into the candies, but faced disastrous results in the laboratory. Instead, she opted to purchase chocolates, which were eaten by a jealous Squirtle before she had the chance to give them to Almond.
Over time, Coconut became friends with Hazel and the local Pokémon, and her yearning for Almond's affection grew stronger. Overwhelmed with the anxiety of not knowing whether Almond had feelings for her, Coconut hypnotized him in Hypnotism to ask him the truth, vowing to leave him alone if the answer was no. Despite her best efforts, Almond was unable to offer a response to her question, disappointing her.
In Eevee-Lu-Tion, when Coconut discovered that an Eevee named Lu had a crush on her own Eevee, she and Hazel devised a convoluted scheme to get them together. The plan ultimately failed, but the girls' encouragement for Lu to listen to her heart happened to be what it took for their relationship to begin.
When Coconut's grandmother, Ginger, came to town in The Mysterious Beauty, Coconut followed her wishes by referring to her as her older sister, earning her respect. However, when Ginger threatened to take Grandpa back to the city if he could not impress her with a new invention, Coconut worked with him on his creation. The invention ended up failing, but Coconut successfully persuaded Ginger to let him remain in town.
In Rock-A-Bye Pokémon, Coconut and Hazel learned that Almond was stuck in a deep sleep caused by Hypno and Drowzee. The two entered their Cave of Slumbers and set a trap to catch them both. Hypno and Drowzee refused to let go of their hold on Almond, threatening to eat his will to love. Determined to save Almond, Coconut and Hazel offered their love instead. The combined power of their love shone blindingly bright, causing Hypno and Drowzee to back down and agree to wake Almond up. Upon learning that the two Pokémon had been ostracized for their appearance, Coconut and Hazel asked for Grandpa's help to rebrand the Cave of Slumbers into an attraction, helping them make new friends.
Later on, a boy named Kiaraway professes his love for her, but she is uninterested.
Character
Coconut comes from a family of scientific geniuses. She enjoys making concoctions and performing experiments, although most tend to have unplanned results. Coconut is very confident in her intelligence and beauty. While she is in opposition to Hazel for Almond's love, the two are often shown spending time together and celebrating each other's accomplishments.
There is a repeated gag of Coconut's home being destroyed, commonly by her own experiments.
