Release information

This card was first released as one of the English XY Black Star Promos on October 12, 2013 in the Chespin Box with artwork by 5ban Graphics. It was later released in the English Kalos Starter Set, originating from the Japanese XY Beginning Set, with different artwork also by 5ban Graphics. The XY Promotional print was later released as one of three Japanese XY-P Promotional cards randomly included in the Lizardon Mega Battle Mega Pack, released on April 19, 2014. The Kalos Starter Set print was later reprinted as an exclusive Confetti Holofoil in the English McDonald's Collection 2014.

It was reprinted with new artwork by Gabi, one of the North American winners of the Your Favorite Pokémon category of the Pokémon Art Academy Competition. The contest was held from February 18 to March 29, 2015 and had entrants create an illustration in Pokémon Art Academy of either a Pikachu in a costume or their favorite Pokémon. Entries had to be uploaded to Miiverse and winners received 100 copies of the card featuring their illustration.

A second Japanese version of the XY Promotional print with the same promotional number was released as part of the Black Mega Gardevoir Campaign, which ran from June 17 until July 8, 2016 at participating store chains. Customers who purchased ¥500 worth of eligible Pokémon products received a special pack containing 1 of 4 possible promotional cards and a half play mat featuring a Shiny Mega Gardevoir.

During the Sword & Shield Series, the Kalos Starter Set print was reprinted in the McDonald's Collection 2021 as both a Non Holo and a Confetti Holo. A Jumbo version of the XY Promotional print was one of three cards available in copies of the Kalos First Partner Pack, released on May 7, 2021. Both of these cards were released to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise and feature a foil Pokémon 25th Anniversary logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration window.
