Starting out
OK, welcome aboard, everyone... So far we're not a lot of users, but hopefully more will join soon (after all, this project isn't even up for a full 24 hours).
I finished (with a little help from CoolPikachu!) putting the notice templates on all related pages (hopefully I haven't missed any).
The next thing we need to do, as I see it, is fugure out what is the perfect song article?. What is our article structure? Let's focus on songs for now, and then move to CDs. Thoughts? --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 10:15, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

- Good is a relative term... The articles aren't all in the same format, and many of them are stubs. --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 11:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
What's the format for Japanese song titles? I noticed we don't translate Haruka, Hikari, and Takeshi for their theme songs, but we do translate names of Pokémon such as for Riding on Lapras or Meowth's Song. However, there are other song articles like Big Nyarth's Day that don't translate the Pokémon species to the English species. What consistency are we using? Are we only translating Pokémon species, but not Human characters? Should everything be translated to the English version? Or, should names always be left in the Japanese version. This is important for consistency in article titles. Satosuke 23:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- You're right. We're inconsistent. I never noticed that. Any of our resident sysops like to solve this for us? --electAbuzzzz 00:25, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- OK, since 2 of our resident admins are currently away and the third isn't responding, I'll make my first "leader decision" without any admin advice, but if anyone thinks differently just say so. What we'll do is this: for human characters, we'll use their Japanese names (Haruka, Hikari, Takeshi), and for Pokémon we'll use the English names. That means the only article that currently needs changing is Big Nyarth Day. I'll take care of that. --electAbuzzzz 08:31, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
What bothers me in Music Articles.
I'm sick of those stupid, unneccessary and often irrelevant piped links in the song texts in song articles. Am I the only one who thinks we should eradicate them? --Maxim 12:13, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I strongly disagree. Most of the are very relevant, and they make the already-usually-stubbish-pages look less black and empty of content... If the lyrics refer to a specific topic in the franchise, why not link to it? --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 12:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have to agree with ElectAbuzzzz Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 13:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

External Linking To Songs
If you can find a link to a song, you should put in at the end of the page under "External Links". TTE encourages linking to openings and endings, so I think the same should apply here. Porygon-Z 13:47, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

It Takes Two
I was told here a while back that there was a song called "It Takes Two" in a commercial to help promote the Ruby and Sapphire games and double-battles performed by Veronica Taylor and Rachael Lillis as Ash and Misty. I'm not an American so I never heard of it. Does anyone have anything about this song, so that we could create an article about it? --electAbuzzzz 12:04, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
- I've got the song. According to Talk:Veronica Taylor, PPN used to have it, but it was lost. But there's a youtube video of it, and the song is acquirable. I have the mp3, but it's not an official mp3 because it wasn't ever released. It would be great if we could get a page on the song though. Satosuke 04:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey guys! I have an update on this! Yes, a video of "It Takes Two" does exist, but it would be very difficult for anyone to find. According to PPN, this commercial was only aired 2 or 3 times on KidsWB (and it wasn't aired during Pokemon). Also, I have some more information. I met Veronica Taylor this month at New York Comic Con, and I asked her about the song "It Takes Two". However, when I asked her about it, she seemed kinda surprised. She told me that the song was actually an in-house production and, that she didn't know how I could've heard it. So anyway, I guess this means someone who works at 4Kids (or at the studio) must've leaked this song to the public after it was produced. Wow! That's awesome! Game Music
I know a lot of this project covers the vocalized music produced as promotional material for the anime and other related Pokémon franchises, but does this project also cover the instrumental tracks used in the games? I don't mean individual pages for each track, but perhaps a section on the music of one generation and in what ways it has been remixed on the Stadiums and in the anime? -K2JMan 03:14, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
I think that would be a good idea. Some of the tracks of video game music have certainly had quite a bit of influence. Since this project also covers CD's and musicians, I think that the video game music would need to be covered in more detail than it has so far. it would have be selective though. Missing Movie 1 soundtrack
I'm puzzled why there's no article for the soundtrack of Movie 1, "サウンドピクチャーボックス ミュウツーの誕生." I first found about it from a page on an old website called Pocket Monsters Repository, and it indeed has an article on Wikipedia of Japan. It is a little treasure, with more than two dozen music pieces, many of which were often used in the anime.
I want to make a new article for the soundtrack, but it seems really weird to me that no one has made an article for this yet, when every single other CD impressively seems to be catalogued here in Bulbapedia. Complicating things is that The Birth of Mewtwo story already has an article, and it was released on a CD along with Movie 1's soundtrack (I don't know if the radio drama was sold in the same product as the soundtrack). What ought I to do?

Japanese AND Romaji Split?
I've noticed that on the Japanese songs, there is nothing set at the moment regarding romaji. For example, on Fanfare of the Heart, or Together's full version, there is a table with the Japanese, the romaji, and then the translation. However, on songs like In Your Heart, LaLaLa and High Touch! there is Japanese with mouse-over romaji, with the translation next to it.
Since I'm utterly hopeless at learning to read the characters myself (especially Kanji, which I'm all but guaranteed to never learn), yet I enjoy listening to (and often memorizing) the songs, it would be convenient if the romaji were always in a separate column, so that when listening to the song on, say, YouTube, it would be easier to see the next line than to constantly have to move the mouse to the next line and wait for it to show up -- especially for songs like Ice Cream Syndrome, which go by so fast that the line is literally over before the transliteration shows up. If the consensus gives me the OK, I'll spend a few hours one of these days going through the Japanese songs and changing them all, but if someone mentions a good reason why I shouldn't, then I won't. It's just one of those things that bugs me. JoeMoron2000 22:46, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

I translated something...
I went and translated (and romanized and prettied up and everything) the lyrics for Can You Name All the Pokémon, Baby?. I removed the MissingLyrics template since I did that, but I'm not sure if it needed confirmation or anything - maybe an okay from someone on the translation - before I did that unilaterally, so I wanted to write here to make sure (hopefully?) someone was aware of that. I also took out the "incomplete" template, but left the stub template, noting that Can You Name All the Pokémon? has pretty much the exact same information and is considered a "complete" stub, so I think, with the update I gave it, Can You Name All the Pokémon, Baby? is as well now. Korean theme names
Nice page here Zesty Cactus!
I see that you've added completing Korean themes on your to-do list (I should really get round to doing some more!). Just noting to you that I'm unsure about some of the title names. The opening theme 웃어봐 is translated as "Smile", which is OK (seems good from reading the context of the lyrics of the song), but I think the title 함께 가는길 (currently translated as "Along the Way") is better worded as "Together Along the Way". Of course this is only my thought, and when I have changed the names in the past my edits were changed again, which means others may not agree with my translation.
Just thought it would be better to settle on a correct title before making the pages.--Wowy(Talk) 12:19, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

Adding Music to Other Pages
I figured it would be worthwhile to ask this here, even though it applies to more than just music pages.
Basically, does anyone think it would be worthwhile to incorporate the names of music tracks (along with links to the track listing of their respective soundtrack) for general pages on the wiki? Examples would be including the name of the background music for individual Routes in their respective infoboxes, or including the names of encounter music in the infoboxes for Trainer Classes in the infoboxes for those pages. I feel that would be especially informative for things like music that is used for multiple Routes, since the name of the track usually only corresponds to the first location to use that track.
It'd be a fairly massive undertaking but I think it'd make for a great improvement, without the legal risk that comes with hosting or linking the music itself on the wiki. —AndyPKMN (talk) 02:03, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
- Chipping in here, I think this would be a great idea. Thorough documentation on where in the video games particular soundtracks are used is hard to come by, and there's no reason Bulbapedia can't do this. I could start by adding it for Mystery Dungeon-related pages. Qzekrom (talk) 06:07, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
- I've actually always been disappointed that various infoboxes don't include the music that plays, such as the various expandable VS Trainer infoboxes and the General area infoboxes, and I see it as such a let down that this wasn't thought of to be included in the first place. Not only does it, in my opinion, totally belong in the jurisdiction of Project Music (despite me personally not being a part of it), but it would also make it clearer about certain trivia points, like how Sendoff Spring uses the Sinnoh Route 210 music or that the Double Battle with Rival Silver against Lance and Clair in the Dragon's Den uses the normal Johto Trainer battle music (not that I'm sure they could have used other music, despite Lance being Champion and Clair being a Gym Leader, since neither of them were acting in their capacity as those positions at the time, even though they use their titles in the battle). Additionally, I think it would also make more people interested in the ongoings of the music in the games themselves if it were more clearly displayed like any other general and important information about areas and battles in the games. And... although I am aware that doing this would require editing basically every area page, in addition to changing a handful of templates, to me, it seems like it would be a worthwhile endeavour. Music is an integral part of video games, so like, the pages about places with music (unfortunately, nearly all of them) should probably have it listed somewhere! Composer song lists?
Hello, everyone! I'm new to this site, and I would like to make a suggestion.
The Pokémon franchise has got plenty of soundtrack CD releases specifying each composition and arrangement role of every musician in each of the core games. As someone who likes to categorize things, I think it would be useful and quite interesting if we opened a section on each composer page with a list of all the songs he/she has been credited to provide in the various soundtracks. That would also offer more information on pages like Satoshi Nohara or Morikazu Aoki, which are mostly empty.
Of course, before doing any of that I would like to know the staff opinion on doing that (I understand that this may be a sudden burst of text on pages, so before doing anything I want to know if I could have green light on the matter).

(As a preface, I am largely quoting myself from SmashWiki, although the question is pertinent on Bulbapedia as well.)
How are the titles of musical compositions/"songs" supposed to be formatted? I have seen italics used in quite a few areas, although I thought that the standard was using quotation marks ("") (first source, second source) for song titles? Wikipedia also advocates the usage of quotation marks for song titles and instrumental compositions. Instrumental compositions seem to vary somewhat, although songs with vocals seem to follow the "quotation mark" guideline, I am not sure what Bulbapedia should use overall.. Additionally, my question was more in regards to the titles of songs from the core series Pokémon videogames (as featured on the numerous "Super Music Collection" releases), although I am not sure if anime vocal songs and background-instrumental songs would have different title-formatting conventions, if any. Thanks in advance for the help! Fenyx4 (talk) 21:40, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- Per Bulbapedia:Manual of style#Formatting preferences, albums are italicized and songs are not put in italics or quotes. --Abcboy (talk) 21:51, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, okay; thank you very much for the response. I guess I will attempt to de-italicize any videogame song titles that I come across, then. While I suppose that the links for particular terms within articles might be enough to help in clarification/disambiguation, I feel that not giving some sort of formatting emphasis to videogame song titles could be somewhat confusing, since many of the song titles share their names with Pokémon Trainers (like May of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire) and with locations (such as buildings like the Battle Maison, or with areas such as Routes). Titles in CD infoboxes
Which language should be given the priority in the absence of an official English title? I spotted a few inconsistencies (not full list):
- Subtitle is in JPN:
- Subtitle is in ENG:
Looking around in other articles, it seems that the majority follow the ENG main title and JPN sub-title format, but I wanted to make sure before I standardise them by swapping the titles around. --Chenzw (talk) 14:29, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
Proper crediting
Hello, new here. I would like to use the english lyrics from the Acacia page as translation for a cover i'm making, but i'm unsure who I should credit for them? Bulbapedia, Project Music, or an individual person? In general, it might be good to proplerly state it somewhere. --NathanDreamweaver (talk) 12:24, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
