Hmm... maybe I could help making a page for Brazil. It is only the time to gather information and write it in a clear manner following the pattern on other's countries pages, isn't it? -- RikkiKitsune 02:22, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk to the project leader, electabuzzzz.--♫Green♫ギャラドス♫Talk♫ 02:32, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
That's mostly what rikkikitsune is doing. Every project leader watches their project talk page for every comment that happens. electabuzzzz will know MaverickNate 02:37, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, well, even before the leader's answer, if anyone want to see, I've started something here. I'll improve it before in fact creating an article (obviously, if I get the permission for it). -- RikkiKitsune 03:32, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely. Articles that are on the list in the project's page are OK to create without prior approval, as long as they are good articles with actual content - no stubs allowed. I would suggest you take all the information from the Brazilian voice actors articles and add it to your example. When you're done, we'll move it to the mainspace. --electAbuzzzz 13:13, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't Pokémon in the US be in this project? Turtwig A Contributions Talk 13:19, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
We have yet to decide whether English-speaking countries need their own articles or not. We're still... debating on that. --electAbuzzzz 16:26, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
That's why I made a subpage of mine's for doing it. It will take some time to make a good page about Pokémon in Brazil. When it's done, I'll ask to mainspace it. ^^ -- RikkiKitsune 21:00, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
What about Pokémon in Japan? Turtwig A Contributions Talk 12:35, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
We have yet to reach a decision on that. On one hand, there's a chance it could be a very interesting article about the franchise in its origin country, and on the other hand, all the information we list on the other countries articles is already covered in every article we have in regards to Japan (try to follow that sentence). Then there's also the fact that we don't really have any active Japanese users (that I know of) who could write such an article, since they all use the Japanese websites and have no reason to visit English-language sites like Bulbapedia. --electAbuzzzz 13:19, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Most of the information that could go into the article is already in the pages like Japan's release date for Red and Green is in the game infobox in that article. Turtwig A Contributions Talk 15:12, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Pokémon in North America

Why aren't Canada and the USA both listed as potential articles? I have ideas of why and responses, but I guess I'll see if there's a real reason preventing their creation first. Porygon-Z 19:25, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, we simply haven't decided yet whether there's a point to creating articles for English-speaking countries or not. You'll notice that the UK, Oz, and NZ aren't listed either. The current articles are made mostly of VA info, while English dub VAs already HAVE articles. Every article we have already contains info about Japanese and English releases and stuff. I'm not saying I'm 100% against these articles, just that I'm not sure yet. I talked about this subject with several other users in the past and heard many contradicting opinions. --electAbuzzzz 19:30, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
I think there must be for at least the USA, which is where practically everything happens to the English franchise. I bet me and ZestyCactus could add in a fair bit of things for a Canada article, too. Anyway, my position on articles is simply that there should be one for every country we are knowledgable about. Porygon-Z 19:34, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh, plus we've got French stuff. Porygon-Z 19:36, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Right, Quebec. Alright, I suppose a Canada article might work, if it'll contain the Canadian French dub info. Start it in the userspace and then we'll see how it works, k? As for the US, I'm still not sure. The US info is on every single page. A US article would be very repetitive and kinda small. --electAbuzzzz 19:46, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

What would you guys think of having each country's "Pokémon slogan" in the infobox? (like, their translation of "Gotta catch 'em all" basically) So, like, "Attrape-les tous!" for French Canada and "¡Atrápalos ya!" for Latin America, etc? ZestyCactus 18:20, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

I agree. And their website, too. Porygon-Z 18:25, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Slogan would work great. I'll find a way to include it later. Website? Not every country has an official Pokémon website. Actually, most don't. --electAbuzzzz 18:28, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I figured that most did. Look at http://www.pokemon.fr, so out of date LOL! Porygon-Z 18:54, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Possibly only countries that translate the games...? --electAbuzzzz 19:34, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Pokémon In China

I was thinking of doing the article but there is so many different logo's for the franchise over there. If the article is created, should we use the logos from the anime, games, or use the international logo?--Midnight Blue 23:00, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

You mean China, right? CuboneKing 23:01, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Yea, that was a typo, but also, in China, Pokémon was banned right or just the games?--Midnight Blue 23:02, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Upload all logos, and show me. We'll use one in the infobox and the others in the body. There are several seperated Chinese dubs of the anime (I know of at least two, but possibly more), so the article will have to include all of them. Start it in your userspace - not the mainspace. Show it to me, and we'll mainspace it when it'll be ready. --electAbuzzzz 23:10, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Alright, well the first thing is to find logos that are by themselves and get more information so it's not a stub.--Midnight Blue 23:13, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Given the size of the People's Republic of China and the fact that different areas may treat the franchise differently (such as between Beijing and Hong Kong, for example), a lot of careful analysis may be needed to create a viable China article.
Careful handling should also be taken to not get Bulbapedia blocked in China because of this project; if China does get ticked at us, that could hinder any possibility of one day having a Chinese affiliate in Encyclopaediae Pokémonis. For example, if what's-that-region has its own handling, that region should be referred to in the legal PRC sense and avoid implicating some exiled guy's views in a way that could get China mad at us. And we don't really know how we should handle that island in the south calling itself the Republic of China should that island warrant an article, because there's plenty of ways to get the mainland mad at us there...--Shiningpikablu252 23:31, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Confirming more languages/countries

OK guys, so far we have managed to confirm that the Pokémon anime is dubbed to at least 35 separated dubs (not counting Japanese and English). The exact list of confirmed dubs can be found here, as well as here (they're supposed to be identical). Now, there are probably other dubs. Since I don't speak those languages (and most of the community probably doesn't), I figured I'll ask for help here. The following languages I need help confirming either way (of course there may be others, but these are the ones I actually think just might exist):

  1. Chinese. I know there are at least two separated dubs, for Cantonese and Mandarin. But I heard there are more than 2 Chinese versions.
  2. Bosnian
  3. Welsh
  4. Persian
  5. Irish
  6. Galician
  7. Indonesian
  8. Lithuanian
  9. Malay
  10. Uzbek
  11. Slovak
  12. Serbian
  13. Ukrainian
  14. Vietnamese
  15. Afrikaans

Anyone knows anything about those? --electAbuzzzz 14:35, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry but I don't know any of the language that you mentioned above but I can do one thing. I will try to contact/find some one who can help us with the new articles. I will try to improve Pokémon in South Asia soon (busy in some personal stuff nowadays). If I find anyone knowing any of the above language then I will send him/her right here. --♫♪Adyniz♪♫ 16:52, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Looking in the Indonesian Wikipedia I have foud this:

"Di Indonesia , serial Pokémon mulai masuk tahun 2001 saat disiarkan di SCTV , dan kemudian diambil alih oleh Indosiar , sayangnya ada kesalahan penerjemahan dimana nama karakter manusia memakai nama Jepang (misal Ash disebut Satoshi), sementara nama Pokémon-nya memakai nama Inggris (nama Charmander tetap memakai istilah bahasa Inggrisnya, yaitu Charmander)."
That, translated by Google, turns into:
"In Indonesia, the series of Pokémon began in 2001 as broadcast on SCTV, and then taken over by Indosiar, unfortunately there are errors of translation where a human character wearing a Japanese name (eg Ash called Satoshi), while the names of his Pokémon use English names (the name Charmander continue to use English terms, ie Charmander)."
This seems to imply that an Indonesian translation was actually done.

  • I have found a Serbian intro here: [1] and it seems different from the Croatian one (you know, the Serbo-Croatian thing) [2].
  • And now a non-indoeuropean surprise: Basque! I found this Euskera opening with lyrics: [3].
  • I'm quite confident that Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian translations do exist. I'm more pessimist about Slovak, considering their habit to use Czech dubbing because of their mutual intelliggibility. I'm not really sure about Albanian, Galician or Afrikaans. Some other languages are really unlikely to have their own version (some really don't stand a chance at all), such as Faroese, West Frisian, Luxembourgish, Low German, Corsican, Friulasn, Rumantsch, Belarussian, Ukrainian, Upper Sorbian, Macedonian, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, Breton, Sami, Armenian, Georgian, Maltese... --Siegfried 22:09, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, I added Serbian and Basque (that IS a surprise). The Indonesian bit I've already seen before myself when I was searching, but I'll hold it off until we know for sure. --electAbuzzzz 23:29, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
I can confirm existence of Slovakian dub, since I watched most of it. It was done for seasons 1-4 and movies 1-3. There is even possibility there are two Slovakian dubs for movie 2, but I never get any chance to confirm this. --Peno 15:13, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi User:ElectAbuzzzz I have viewed the Croatian version- but i cant see their would be a serbian dub due to the similaritys and that it would be a plain waste of money creating something that alredy exists.Im comfident that croatian and serbian would be classed as one dub being the umbrella launguage of croatian and serbia (serbo-croatian).--Solid! 04:29, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Linguistically speaking, I can agree with you that Croatian and Serbian could be regarded as two dialects of the same language (but that’s just my personal opinion). But, luckily, this isn’t our purpose here. I think our problem could summarized as: are there two indipendent translations of Pokémon anime in the Serbo-Croatian language, one used in Croatia and one used in Serbia? If they exist, I personally think that the best solution would be to list them under the names of Croatian and Serbian (given that they are aired in Croatia and Serbia respectively). As already stated by Maxim, we have a lot of examples of pluricentric languages having separate translations (French, Portuguese, Spanish).
We already have some croatian voice actors listed in this page: [[4]]. It would be amazing if you could check, using you proficiency in the language, if there are other different voice actors for the Serbian dub. You can list them here, if you find them. --Siegfried 09:56, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Siegfried. I have access to the croatian voice credits but as a croatian we know how hard it is to access info from serbia ,because ive never heard of a plain servian dub launguage . I havent found any resources for serbian credits.Surely 4kids or W.B would have a list of all dubs produced.I apreciate your help and advice.I will try find serbia credits.--Solid! 05:38, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I think there are more then two Chinese dubs for Pokémon. There is one for Hong Kong-I don't know if they speak Mandarin. There is definetly one for Mandarin-I watched it before. I know there is one for Cantonese because my friend watches it. Another one they have is for Maccu- I don't know if they speak Mandarin. There is also one in Singapore and I don't think they speak Mandarin.--99pokemon talk 01:35, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

There's at least four dubs. The original mainland dub, the Cantonese dub (for Hong Kong and maybe Macau), the mainland redub (CCTV) and the Taiwanese dub (I watch this one). For Singapore, I have no idea, it's either in Mandarin or in English. There are (at least) three for Mandarin actually, but only the Taiwanese dub remains. P.S. Hongkongers, Macanese and Singaporeans do know Mandarin, although Cantonese is more dominant in Hong Kong and Macau. --神智の超龍對話 10:54, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

official websites

Should the official websites be an external link? There are many Pokémon sites, including the (French, German, and even one for Malta. A full list can be found here (I don't think it counts Asia or Africa). Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 02:41, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree. I mentioned it further up on this page. Virtual-Z 20:28, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sure. Just throw it in the external links. --electAbuzzzz 22:47, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Speaking of that site, I looked in the coding and found this. This shows all countries that Pokémon.com has subpages for. Also note how Russia, India, the Middle East, and Africa are all hidden. Possible redo/intro in GenV?--immewnitythemew 02:03, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

In the UK and Australia

I would've thought that those where no brainers, about a quarter of us are from either of those countries and there's a lot to cover. They all have their own TV Channels and Pokemon-related history. I even have a few old tapes of the Pokemon SMTV Live Pokémon Sketches to go off. Maybe I'm missing the point of this project, but if Canada has an article I don't see why every country shouldn't have one--Emp 23:08, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I don't think English speaking countries aren't allowed. I believe Canada was given an article because it also has French as one of its native languages. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 23:50, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
We're currently not in agreement among the staff regarding this issue. Both sides have valid points. I'll run this by the higher-ups. --electAbuzzzz 08:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, here's the deal: we talked it over and we'll allow articles for English-speaking countries (not the US). --electAbuzzzz 21:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Just come across this, so I though I'd post a link to my Pokémon in the United Kingdom article in the making, could do with a bit of improvement. Vuvuzela2010 14:16, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Pokémon in Taiwan/Republic of China

I think there should be a page about Pokémon in Taiwan. I have lived there for periods of time and I know something about that place and Pokémon in that place.By the way, Taiwan is no longer China's--99pokemon talk 01:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Pokémon in Australia

I was wondering if by any chance can we have an article about Pokémon in Australia? I know this was mentioned earlier, but that was a little over a year ago and there's still no article about it. Lanturn 03:32, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Regarding Pokémon in Australia (and in United Kingdom, which is mentioned above), I suppose this is okay (it was approved by electAbuzzzz previously), as long as the article highlights what exactly in Australia (or UK, or any other English-only, non-USA country) is distinct from what's just available in the United States or anywhere else. If you'd like to start a page in your user space, like at User:Lanturn/Pokémon in Australia, go ahead. We'll keep an eye out for it :D --ZestyCactus 23:53, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

I have created a page under my userspace for Pokémon in Australia. This is under User:Naze/Pokémon in Australia. If someone can please check it out, I'll be appreciated. Naze (talk) 11:04, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

South Africa?

Apparently they get the anime, and there have been game and TCG releases there as well, would this be enough for South Africa to get an article? I've never been though, so I dont know much else, but it would be nice to have a page for an African country, given that we dont have a page a single one.
