Release information

This Tretta was awarded as a prize at each Challenge Cup event held at the 37th Next Generation World Hobby Fair during winter 2013. The World Hobby Fair took place at the Nagoya Dome, Nagoya on January 20, 2013; at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on January 26 and 27, 2013; at the Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome, Fukuoka on February 3, 2013; and at the Kyocera Dome Osaka, Osaka on February 10, 2013.

The Challenge Cup tasked entrants to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem in one of eight possible teams of three Pokémon. The Battle Mode takes place in a location made exclusively for the event: a forest with colorful trees and bunting. This theme would later serve the basis of all locations in the Gather! New Leaguers set. Genesect could also exclusively be encountered in two of the eight teams, not featured on a Tretta until the Witness Genesect! set. The possible teams are detailed below.

Players who managed to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem were awarded either this Tretta or a White Kyurem Tretta depending on the team. The top 20 scorers were also awarded a 'WINNER' seal, with the top three scorers earning a personalized certificate, and the overall winner earning a Pokémon Tretta manga image signed by Kazuhiko Sugitani. All participants were also awarded either a Servine, Pignite, Dewott, Cobalion, Chandelure, Terrakion, or Hydreigon Tretta at random.

A combination of new Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup and regular Challenge Cup events were held as part of the Kids Games Festival in Spring, first held at Yomiuri Land, Tokyo and at Den Park, Anjō on April 7, 2013. Several other venues across Japan were later added, taking place between April 27 and May 26, 2013. The Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup events included guest appearances by cast members and mascots of Pokémon Smash!. This event tasked entrants to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem in two possible teams, featuring Director Lucario and Oshawott. Players who managed to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem were again awarded either this Tretta or a White Kyurem Tretta depending on the team. The random participation prizes included those previously available in the original Challenge Cup events, plus Virizion, Accelgor, Landorus, and Lucario. All participants also earned a special Tretta Report seal featuring the aforementioned Director Lucario and Oshawott mascots. The possible Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup teams are detailed below.

A combination of Challenge Cup and Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup events were also held as part of the Pokémon Exciting Carnival, held at several AEON Malls across Japan from May 11 to July 13, 2013.

Two Challenge Cup events were held in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of Pokémon Centers in Japan. The Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup was held at Pokémon Centers nationwide from May 25 to May 31, 2013. The Tretta available as random participation prizes for this event increased to include Tornadus and Thundurus. The new Strongest Challenge in History! Kyurem Challenge was held at Pokémon Centers nationwide from June 1 to June 14, 2013. This event again tasked entrants to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem, though featured a different set of eight possible teams. These teams are detailed below.

Another Pokémon Smash! Challenge Cup was held at the 2013 International Tokyo Toy Show. This took place on June 15 and June 16, the last two days of the event.

This Tretta was awarded as one of two potential Challenge Cup prizes, held at participating Ito-Yokado stores across Japan on August 11, 2013. Participants who managed to defeat either Black Kyurem or White Kyurem in one of the original Challenge Cup lineups were awarded either this Tretta or a White Kyurem Tretta depending on the team.
