Animated series character recycling

Character recycling is a term used when a single visual design for the Pokémon animated series is used in multiple episodes for different, unrelated characters, usually characters of the day. When character recycling occurs, the characters are generally identical in appearance, with only small cosmetic changes like hair color differing between episodes.

Tracey Sketchit and Tad
Tracey Sketchit debuted in The Lost Lapras as a traveling companion of Ash's. A lookalike by the name of Tad later appeared in Charizard Chills. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in Tricks of the Trade. Another unnamed lookalike later appeared in Beauty and the Breeder.
Miss Priscilla
Miss Priscilla was featured in A Bout with Sprout. An unnamed lookalike teacher with differently colored hair later appeared in Doin' What Comes Natu-rally.
Pokémon League entrance exam instructor
The Pokémon League entrance exam instructor was featured in The Ultimate Test. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in You're a Star, Larvitar!.
Annie and Stephanie
Annie was featured in Wobbu-Palooza!. A lookalike by the name of Stephanie later appeared in Having a Wailord of a Time.
Max and Max
Max debuted in There's no Place Like Hoenn. A lookalike who was also named Max later appeared in Maxxed Out!, although this was an intentional case. An unnamed older-looking background character with a resemblance to Max later appeared in Cruisin' for a Losin'.
Captain
A captain appeared in Hoenn Alone!. An unnamed lookalike previously appeared in Tentacool & Tentacruel. Another unnamed lookalike previously appeared in Mantine Overboard. Another unnamed lookalike later appeared in Vanity Affair and Island Time.
Delaney and Kent
Delaney was featured in Outrageous Fortunes. A lookalike by the name of Kent later appeared in A Cacturne for the Worse.
Bill and Dominick
Bill appeared in Mystery at the Lighthouse. An unnamed lookalike with brown hair later appeared at the end of Hoenn Alone. Another lookalike named Dominick later participated in the Ever Grande Conference in From Brags to Riches.
Delia Ketchum
Delia Ketchum debuted in Pokémon - I Choose You! as the mother of main protagonist Ash. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in From Cradle to Save.
Bogie
Bogie appeared in Jirachi: Wish Maker. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in The Rise of Darkrai.
Cherry
Cherry appeared in The Psychic Sidekicks!. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in Staging a Heroes' Welcome!.
Temacu
Temacu was featured in The Heartbreak of Brock. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in Staging a Heroes' Welcome!.
Oscar and Andi

Jump was featured in Saved by the Beldum. An unnamed lookalike later appeared in The Lonely Deino!.
Mrs. Otter
Mrs. Otter appeared in Pokéblock, Stock, and Berry. An unnamed lookalike previously appeared in A Goldenrod Opportunity. Another unnamed lookalike previously appeared in The Art of Pokémon. Another unnamed lookalike later appeared in Beauties Battling for Pride and Prestige!.
CTV news crew
The CTV news crew was featured in Spell of the Unown. Unnamed lookalikes operating under the MTV banner later appeared in Lumiose City Pursuit!.
Cynthia
Cynthia appeared in several episodes of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl and Pokémon the Series: Black & White. An unnamed lookalike, who is also Verity's mother, later appeared in I Choose You!.
