Zweilous (Japanese: ジヘッド Dihead) is a dual-type Dark/Dragon Pokémon.

It evolves from Deino starting at level 50 and evolves into Hydreigon starting at level 64.

Biology

Physiology

Zweilous is a quadruped Pokémon that has muscular front legs with two claws on each foot, but rear legs that are less defined and have two small, backward-pointing toes without claws. Zweilous's fur is a gray-black while the body is a dark blue. There are tufts of fur over two heads with rounded points at the top, and Zweilous appears to have no eyes. There are two thin wings on the black section. Each wing ends in two points. The fur stops at the chests and opens up to fuschia-colored striped bands on the side of Zweilous's legs. It is unknown if Zweilous is blind, like its pre-evolution.

Gender differences

None.

Trivia

Origin

Zweilous draws inspiration from the Yamata no Orochi. It is also similar to Zmeys, a Slavic, winged, polycephal species of dragon. Its Shiny coloration may be a reference to the green colored Zmey Gorynych.

According to interviews with Sugimori in Nintendo Dream, Zweilous and its evolution family were originally intended to be cyborg dragons—part tank and part dragon. They were then scrapped until late in the game when they were revived and re-made to be based on Yamata no Orochi. The tank tread-like markings on Zweilous's underbelly are a remnant of this design.

Name origin

Zweilous may be a combination of zwei (German for two) and jealous (as the heads are always fighting each other for food). It may also derive from zealous, which reflects Zweilous's voracious appetite and intensely competitive nature.

Dihead is a combination of di (Greek for two) and head. It literally means "two head".
