A Youngster (Japanese, Generations I/II (katakana): たんパンこぞう; Generations III-V (hiragana): たんぱんこぞう; translation: Shorts Youngster) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are depicted as average young boys wearing caps, and short pants.

They use a variety of Pokémon, but they tend towards common ones that are caught early in their respective games. In Black and White, a significant amount of Youngsters specialize in Bug-type Pokémon, likely due to the absence of Bug Catchers in the Unova region. Some will give out Ultra Balls when defeated.

Youngsters appear to be the male counterparts of Lasses.

In Pokémon Stadium, they were referred to as Lads.

Youngster Joey (Japanese: ゴロウ Gorō) appears in Pokémon Adventures and Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys. It is the same character in each manga, as indicated by his team of Pokémon and appearances. He is known as Grant in the Chuang Yi edition of Pokémon Adventures.

The Youngster of the Oreburgh Gym sent out Geodude to challenge Piplup. Geodude was defeated when Platinum was able to challenge Roark.
