* Despite what its name would imply, and it being more closely associated with {{t|Ghost}} types, Will-O-Wisp is a {{type|Fire}} move. This is presumably due to it inflicting a burn. A similar situation occurs with {{m|Poison Powder}}.

* Will-O-Wisp is the only [[status move]] capable of inflicting a burn.

* Even though Will-O-Wisp is a status move, its depiction in the anime is similar to that of a damage-dealing move, never causing any burns at all, in one instance being shown to equal {{m|Flamethrower}} in terms of power.
