Quotes

Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal

  • Before battle
"Welcome to Pokémon League, <player>. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Will. I have trained all around the world, making my psychic Pokémon powerful. And, at last, I've been accepted into the Elite Four. I can only keep getting better! Losing is not an option!"
  • When defeated
"I... I can't... believe it..."
  • After being defeated
"Even though I was defeated, I won't change my course. I will continue battling until I stand above all Trainers! Now, <player>, move on and experience the true ferocity of the Elite Four."

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

  • Before battle
"Welcome to the Pokémon League! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Will. I have trained all around the world, making my Psychic-type Pokémon powerful. And, at last, I've been accepted into the Elite Four. I can only keep getting better! Losing is not an option!"
  • After sending out last Pokémon
"We Psychics don't give up even when we're down to the last Pokémon. That's what makes us so formidable!"
  • During battle
"Until we reach zero, our power is limitless. I'm not giving up yet!"
  • When defeated
"I... I can't... believe it..."
  • After being defeated
"Even though I was defeated, I won't change my course. I will continue battling until I stand above all Trainers! Now move on and experience the true ferocity of the Elite Four."

Will

Will, along with Karen, Green, Silver, Chermaine, and Keane, is one of the children kidnapped by the Masked Man and raised to be his servants. Will was one of the few who were inducted as one of his followers of his own volition, and became one of the leaders of the new Team Rocket formed in Johto. After being cornered and beaten by Silver and the freeing of Ho-Oh and Lugia, which were under his command, he and Karen met Koga and Bruno, who after the Masked Man's defeat offered positions. Together, the four formed a new Elite Four and weren't heard of until HeartGold & SoulSilver arc. In this recent reappearance, Will sports a new outfit that resembles his game counterpart's.

Trivia

  • Will's hair falls over the left side of his face, leading to his left eye being whited out in some depictions. This has spurred debate as to whether he has one functioning eye or two. This is rectified in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, where his overworld sprite clearly shows two eyes, both obscured by white. His mask thus acts like those of Batman and Robin.
  • Interestingly, his Japanese name Itsuki is shared with a character from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Itsuki Koizumi, who is an esper. The Template:Type2, Will's preference, is known as the Esper type in Japan.
  • During a line of in-battle speech, Will actually says he's a psychic. This however is unconfirmed.
  • All of Will's Pokémon (excluding Jynx, for obvious reasons) changed from male in Gold, Silver, and Crystal to female in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
    • Similarly to Saturn, Bugsy and Janine (in generation II) his Pokémon are the opposite gender of himself despite having a 50-50 gender ratio.
  • Will's Jynx changes abilities between battles in HeartGold and SoulSilver; in the first battle, she has Oblivious, but during the rematch, she has Forewarn.
  • Will is the only member of the Indigo Plateau Elite Four that uses only Pokémon of the type that he specializes in in the first match. All others have at least one Pokémon not of their specialty in their first match, and, with the exception of Lance, replace the Pokémon not of their specialty with Pokémon of their specialty in rematches.
