WikiDex joins Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis

WikiDex is a Spanish Pokémon wiki that serves the Pokémon community in Spain and in Latin America. WikiDex was originally hosted on Fandom (formerly Wikia) and was affiliated with English and Korean Pokémon Wikis in Fandom, but on August 11, 2017, it became an independent site. The following May, WikiDex would become a member of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, a multi-lingual group of wikis documenting all aspects of Pokémon.

History

WikiDex was founded on March 14, 2006 by DragonTrainer on the website host Fandom, then called Wikia. It was originally started as the PokéRPG Enciclopedia, a forum for the Pokémon series, but after recognizing the need for Pokémon information in Spanish, it was quickly decided for the wiki to cover general content about Pokémon. The mascot for WikiDex during its infancy has constantly changed, but in 2008, the wiki resettled on Pichu as the mascot for WikiDex. Near the same time, WikiDex also began moving its fanon-related content over to La Wikia de Pokéfanon.

In 2010, near the launch of Pokémon Black and White in Japan, the wiki redesigned its Monobook and Monaco skin (prior to its discontinuation the same year). While the wiki continued to grow with nearly 12,000 articles by 2016, member were growing tired over Fandom's adspace taking over the site.^[1]

Starting in November 2016, Fandom staff offered the members of WikiDex to switch their current infoboxes to the new portable infobox stylizing for mobile optimization. However, users, including the WikiDex administration, disagreed on the implementation, saying that the change is unreliable and unnecessary. Although the WikiDex community explained their opposition to these changes, Fandom only pushed back their deadline for which the new infoboxes would be implemented to May 1, 2017.^[2]^[3]^[4]

Once Fandom staff began changing their current infoboxes to the portable infoboxes on May 1, 2017, Ciencia Al Poder and Flygon 7, both admins of WikiDex, attempted to revert the changes made by Fandom. They were demoted, with the former being banned on the site after attempting to overturn the changes using alts. With these strings of incidents, on August 11, 2017 WikiDex became an independent wiki.^[5] The following May, WikiDex joined Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, replacing the defunct Pokéteca as the Spanish-language member.
