He finds Ash, Iris and Cilan during their trajectory to Higaki City, where Ash wants to participate in the championship of the Pokémon League of Unova, after presenting, Ash and Virgil come together to solve a problem involving a reservoir taken by wild Cryogonal. Later, Virgil reveals that he intends to enter the Unova League, making him another one of Ash's many rivals.
He reappeared in BW103. His brother Davey brought him to Higaki City by helicopter to compete in the Higaki Conference. There, he met up with Ash, his friends and all of Ash's other rivals in Unova. In the first round he battled with his Vaporeon against Ultimo and his Crustle.
