:In the How I Became a Pokémon Card manga, Akari was born female but self-identifies as male. He was presenting as male exclusively at school to all his friends until middle school when he was forced to wear a uniform with a skirt. Therefore, Akari is female-to-male transgender. Since he identifies as male in the manga, the article reflects that by using male pronouns. Also, "it" pronouns are offensive to the transgender community. ::I see now that Akari is male. When something like that was made to be confusing, problems occur, kind of similar to who is the protagonist or antagonist of a story when both sides act the opposite of who they are.
