Since a file size is specified for them, even those images that are animated are being called as thumbnails and thus only displaying the first frame. Additionally, all 3DS era images on the archives should be of the native resolution (400x240px) while the template is actually calling them to be 250px, so removing the file size would be better anyway. : I'm not sure if sizing them at their native resolution will be too large for the page, also not sure if editing the template to account for the very few instances of animations for 3DS images is worth it. I asked on Discord but didn't get much of a response. It might be better for you to ask admins who are more familiar with the core series games and templating than myself. ::The native resolution is smaller than what the template is using, so they'll actually be easier for the page to load. Anyway, I like your second idea better, I think currently only a few files are animated, so a non-template would be better to use until a consensus on updating the template.
