Hey, I've taken an interest in helping with the archives, one of the things I think could be useful would be if I uploaded new revisions of PNG files that have been optimized for the smallest file size (with no to very little quality difference), such as converting RGB PNG's to Indexed Color PNG's (custom palletes). :I'll bring it up with some of the other Archives staff members. While obviously smaller images will improve loading times and result in reduced bandwidth requirements, I don't think that's the main cause of the loading issues. ::Sure. The difference is that with many anime images, especially character images, there are only a few distinct colors used. Hence rather than encoding them in a PNG that uses the entire RGB colorspace, one could simply include palette containing the few colors the image uses. The difference can be very large, with no visual drop. I could give you a few links to comparisons if you'd like (I'll upload them on an external website for now). Obviously bandwidth isn't a large issue (I'm guessing server hardware is more often than not), but anything that could save bulbapedia some bandwidth would be helpful, especially for larger images.
