Since you never got one...

Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, The Great Butler!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • Read over the style primer before making your edits. It is a basic outline of Bulbapedia style. For a more in-depth set of rules, see the manual of style.
  • Keep an eye on the Messages from the Editor on the main page, to stay informed on current events on Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The é can be accessed by holding Alt and typing either 130 or 0233 on a Windows computer, and by using Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can easily click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a capital B. The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon or other media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • Image uploading is done on Bulbagarden Archives, a separate wiki accessible through the toolbox in the sidebar. This is done so that both Bulbapedia and Bulbanews have access to the images uploaded. To activate your account at the Archives and Bulbanews, please login there using the same username and password you use here on Bulbapedia.
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:The Great Butler/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • Having said this, please make sure that you do contribute adequately to the main namespace. Bulbapedia is not MySpace or Facebook.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! --TTEchidna 00:12, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Additionally

If you create a page, categorize it, and if you don't like the page, don't blank it. TTEchidna 00:12, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

About Jun...

Yeah. We're not creating it yet because we don't want some crazy amount of speculation. We would, but the fact is that it's just not needed yet... especially since most CotDs wait several weeks before they get pages. He'll have his page SOON. TTEchidna 03:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Link Templates

When making an edit like yours, you can just use {{p|Mantine}}, instead of [[Mantine {Pokémon)|Mantine]], its much easier. --PsychicRider 02:46, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

- I see. I will keep this in mind for future edits. Thanks. ~Butler

You're welcome. There wasn't anything wrong with using your method, it just saves space by using the "p" template. --PsychicRider 02:57, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Predictions

I like your predictions...they might actually work!...I like Lord of the PokéRingers' but it's probably not going to be that, for it's more of a recent show.--Tavisource 01:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I really couldn't figure out a much better name for that episode. --The Great Butler 01:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summary

Hi you dont seem to be using edit summaries at all. Please start using them.It helps people in petrolling. --Prongs (TalkContributions) 04:01, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

They don't have too.--☆Coolピカチュウ! 04:03, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Someone pointed it out on my talk page. --Prongs (TalkContributions) 04:05, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
You do. But I perfer not to use them often.--☆Coolピカチュウ! 04:17, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Conversely, I have made only two edits without one... and then, by accident. It is preferable and advised for all persons to make an accurate summary of what they've done. It looks good in the page history, too. — THE TROM — 04:27, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Links

You really need to provide links as proof of where you found all this out to avoid being reverted by other users. So can you prove that Palmer will be in DP138? --ケンジガール 03:29, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

- durd2.jpg <<< This image, which came from a magazine scan featuring all the other information about DP138. --The Great Butler 03:30, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! --ケンジガール 03:34, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Also, I apologize for not using the right templates on DP138's page - I saw Delia's in the original version and thought it was miscoded, and I didn't know there was a Frontier Brain template. --The Great Butler 03:37, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
It's alright. The FB template's a pain to remember anyway. --ケンジガール 03:39, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

The movie cards

Changing that one name breaks a lot more than you know about. Just warning you. MaverickNate 02:58, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Plūf

You added "Plūf" to the Movie characters template, right? I have no idea who's that but I can say one thing - this romanization is awkward. In Engrish-ized romanization we omit macron marks. But for proper romanization, one needs a Kana spelling. What's the Kana spelling of this name. If it's "プルーフ" then "Proof" would be a better romanization. --Maxim 10:32, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Talk pages

You've been here a while, you should know the talk page policy. Talk pages are for discussing the quality/substance of the article, remember? As such, the Tea Party/Glenn Beck comments were unnecessary and have been deleted. —darklordtrom 02:02, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

It was a joke, meant to ask why "Tea Party" was added to the page's template as the Pokémon Nappers leader. --The Great Butler 02:05, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Next time do so in a more clear way. Not everything has to be a joke. Umeko added Tea Party; she's got an extensive knowledge of Japanese so I'd be inclined to believe it. —darklordtrom 02:19, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Ingo and Emmet

Would you mind providing proof of that the twins will appear in BW047 and BW048? Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 06:50, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind. I see it now. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 06:51, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

:O!! Look at that nose! XDD Yeah, thanks for that~ I just saw Bluesun's image. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 06:56, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, it's Musashi's image really. Bluesun 07:01, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

The name changes

I already talked to Ady about that. He said he talked to someone about it and it's cool. Ataro 09:25, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I see. Count me as surprised though, because I thought we already went over this extensively when it was over Karl, Sheena and Kevin's names. --The Great Butler 09:28, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Episode pages

Please try to avoid editing episode pages while the episode is still airing. This way it isn't edited multiple times before the episode is even finished. Thanks. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 10:14, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Alright. --The Great Butler 10:16, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

"So yeah", hey man

Well, before I begin, I hope you don't find this offensive; it was either this (me addressing you) or an edit war, and the latter I'm assuming shouldn't ever occur. Nowhere in my revision are the words "looks like", and if it can be said that Probopass looks like ("pays homage to" are the actual words I believe) Mario (which, by your definition, is an opinion; the article on Probopass is just an example of whoever added said information comparing the Pokemon to a character that happens to be outside of the Pokemon series lol), then why is it so absolutely terrible that I think Mysterial's body sort of resembles Empoleon's? It wasn't even like I just put "mysterial looks like empoleon"; I described their similarities (without using the words "looks like"). BNKTalk 00:16, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

There has been a history of similar topics coming up on other pages. A long time ago, for example, some people saw resemblance to some members of the Dialga/Palkia/Giratina trio in the shapes of the puddles within the caves at the lakes. Some people saw them, some people didn't, and it was decided that the possible resemblance was not based in fact enough to warrant being included. It's the same thing here - it doesn't seem anyone else sees these similarities. The Probopass thing probably shouldn't be there either, but that's another topic for another time. --The Great Butler 00:22, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, thanks for clearing that up. I suppose majority rules, I'll try to start discussions on the talk page before adding information to pages I feel may conflict with views of other users. BNKTalk 00:27, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Just great...

I see you created your own page about Trip's Conkeldurr. That's sooooo nice. Once again, I'm too late for creating an article even for myself. Dammit. --FinnishPokéFan92 15:59, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the images to the move template, though. --The Great Butler 22:43, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Please don't

I saw the description for why you undid my edit for Juanita's Golurk. She didn't issue the command. I made the same mistake before, but this talk page response to me shows a perfectly good reason not to assume. Chowolun 02:07, 10 April 2012 (UTC) User:Lucario985

That page is the exact same one that reinforced my reason for changing it back. Not only did Golurk fly (which is what that page actually says) it also used its flight to directly attack using no other recognizable move. That is exactly what Fly is. --The Great Butler 02:30, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Tell that to Pokemaster97. Chowolun 02:33, 10 April 2012 (UTC) User:Lucario985

Hey, sorry about last night...

I'm sorry about getting angry at you the other day. I had a shitty day yesterday. Chowolun 13:26, 10 April 2012 (UTC) User:Lucario985 (Want to talk?)

Just to fill you in

I e-mailed John Loeffler again, and he said that the 4kids music will for sure, definatly be used in bw100. so it's a for sure, definate there. please respond on my talk page, i might not be able to find this page again due to my picky browser. Christian Woods Azu! 18:16, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

scrap that part about not finding your page again. Christian Woods Azu! 18:20, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Kami trio (anime)

05308 has already made a page for them. Just so you know :)--ForceFire 10:03, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I was unaware. Please delete mine if it hasn't been already. --The Great Butler (talk) 03:14, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

New episode articles

You are probably aware of it but an obligated reminder. Instead of copying the format in the previous episode, use this template: {{New episode}}. Just fill-in the parameters like this: {{subst:New episode|ep number|jp. airdate|kanji|translated title}}. That'd be all, have a nice day ahead. AdynizWanna talk? 19:41, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Actually, I wasn't aware. Thank you for the notice. Though, won't the template need to be changed for the beginning of the XY series, at least color-wise? --The Great Butler (talk) 22:57, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Yeah, it will be updated soon hopefully. AdynizWanna talk? 02:21, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Astrid

What is the sourc dat Astrid a Pyroar and a Mewostick have? --Altruis でんき 03:19, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Ask the person who added them to her page. I'm just trying to keep up. The Great Butler (talk) 06:05, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Ash's Hawlucha

How did you find out that Ash's Hawlucha was a male? I know you put "stated in the episode" in the edit summary, but so that I can check, which episode, and when was it stated that Hawlucha is a male? --リックEO (オープン for discussion) 23:00, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

The COTD in Hawlucha's capture episode constantly refers to it using male adverbs ("he", "him"). The Great Butler (talk) 00:08, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Did you watch the subbed version (audio in Japanese, fanmade English subtitles) somewhere on the internet? Or has the episode been aired in English somewhere in the world? --リックEO (オープン for discussion) 03:26, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
There are no gender pronouns in the Japanese Language. Subs do not count as an official confirmation of gender. You should know this by now.--ForceFire 05:07, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Oh there are gender pronouns in Japanese, but they kind of work differently. Here's the tricky and confusing part: when Hawlucha strikes a pose, Kanazawa says "kare no policy nanda", which translates to "it's its/their policy". BUT depending on whether Kanazawa was talking formally or informally, it might be translated to "it's his policy". Kare can either mean "his", or it can mean "their/its", depending on whether Kanazawa was talking formally, or informally. WP's Japanese pronouns article, and a question sent to the Japan Guide Forum recently: [1] might have more info. Let me check and do a little research before calling Hawlucha a male. (Why does gender confirmation and the Japanese language have to be so complicated? Sigh) --リックEO (オープン for discussion) 09:51, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Diancie Movie English Cast

How do you know the credits are in order of appearance? I don't remember it being that way. サトシ101 (talk) 22:04, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

The short of it is that this movie's credit roll breaks the pattern the movies usually follow. In previous movies, Ikue Ohtani is credited first, then Ash's group, followed by the major guest characters in a general order of descending importance. In this movie, Caitlin Glass is top billed over everyone but Ohtani. She is followed by Sarah Natochenny, Michael Liscio, Haven Paschall and Alyson Rosenfeld. After them, though, the next two names are inexplicably the two verbal Carbinks, even though they don't appear for half the movie after the opening scene. Mary O'Brady is credited last, and because Brittney Hamilton is Millis, she is either Marilyn or Xerneas. If she was Marilyn, that would mean Lianne Marie Dobbs is Xerneas and inexplicably credited above all of the thieves despite having only a few lines. In other words, the list is either in rough order of appearance or a completely random list; by placing the explicitly confirmed names it creates clear evidence of the list being in order of appearance. --The Great Butler (talk) 03:59, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

...
You've been here... since 2008... and you haven't heard that credits are not credible sources? Credit DO NOT say who voiced who, just that they had a role in the movie. Also, what you just did was basically playing by ear. We KNOW Ohtani is Pikachu, we KNOW Natochenny is Ash, but what we DON'T KNOW is who Hamilton or Bobbs played because they're not regulars. Process of elimination/going by credit order is STILL playing by ear.--ForceFire 05:21, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Re: M17 cast

I'm not sure Theresa Buchheister can help because the voice director was still Tom Wayland at the time. But I'll do my best. Technickal (talk) 10:58, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Faba

I think the first of the month is the only "guaranteed" day he'll be there for a rematch. He was there for three straight days when I was preparing for the Wi-Fi tournament. 3DS date wasn't changed, and only the first day was the first of the month. The other two days he still appeared. G50

That sounds like something I would want to hear from more people to see if it's true. Not that I don't believe you, but I think it needs further testing based on my experiences. The Great Butler (talk) 02:04, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Guzma's past

When you added info about Guzma's past to his page, can you explain what you got "his childhood is hinted to have been abusive" and "he eventually ran away from home after a violent confrontation with his father" from? Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:22, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

For the latter, the statement given by his father when spoken to in the game directly indicates the confrontation taking place, and his father says "I tried to set him straight, but I was the one who got beat," indicating it was violent. That alone could be said to show his childhood was abusive, but the hints at that, such as the bag of broken golf clubs, are not clear enough to say anything more than "hinted at." --The Great Butler (talk) 06:38, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Both of those things are very weak "evidence" that there was abuse. There's every possibility that "setting him straight" was not violent. (For what it's worth, "got beat" is fairly ambiguous in English, but more likely violent in Japanese; but that's solely Guzma's side of the equation.) And connecting the bent golf clubs to abuse is simply a massive leap of logic. If anything, it's most likely Guzma himself would have been responsible for ruining them, one way or another. But it's total speculation either way.
As a heads up, for those reasons, I'm going to remove those statements. Tiddlywinks (talk) 11:15, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Also, can you (or anyone?) clarify for me anywhere that it's explicitly said that Guzma and/or Kukui are too old to be trial captains any more? I can see that both of them failed or chose not to, but not that they're "legally" (or whatever) unable to anymore. Tiddlywinks (talk) 12:34, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Mirage Mansion

I noticed you said that Mirage Mansion was "The name given in the original blurb for the special on the official website". Are you able to provide a Wayback Machine link, or a screenshot, or the original site? That would be useful on the talk page of the article, for verification purposes. --SnorlaxMonster 05:39, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

I got thrown when I noticed the blurb on the MoMP page, but while researching it I did find that the link is inserted in an invisible text there. https://web.archive.org/web/20120921032955/http://www.pokemon.com/us/ex/mewtwo/animation The Great Butler (talk) 20:43, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

Pokémon Masters cast

Hey! Since you've been asking about a cast format for Pokémon Masters, I'm pleased to let you know I have a sandbox article dealing with just that. Edit it however you see fit. :) GrammarFreak01 (talk) 01:39, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Cool, I'll check it out. The Great Butler (talk) 07:40, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Too much detail

I saw your edit on Leon's anime page, whilst it is good to have more detail than a few sentences, what you wrote was a bit too detailed. Can you try and avoid this in the future--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 14:31, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Okay, I'll keep it in mind. The Great Butler (talk) 05:25, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
