::Lots of things on here have never been explicitly pointed out or stated. Common sense and a good eye plays a lot in this.
::A Pokeball is normally registered specifically to a Pokemon to a specific trainer. That's why a Trainer has to go to special places to change a pokemon's ball.
::When Ash's Snorlax ball broke, he couldn't just recall it to any ball on his possession. A Trainer has to either go to a Center, or some kind of Pokemart (I forget if it was a rich lady with a Snubull or a Meowth who got a fancy ball for her pokemon) to have balls changed or upgraded in some way.
