Yes, the {{bp|Manual of style/Romanization|wiki's romanization guidelines}} say that they should be used for kanji but they can be useful for someone who can't read Japanese characters and who would like to know what it is, not what it translates to. I believe this should be revised and we should use the same templates as Wikipedia does, which I already suggested to Werdnae. That way, even mobile users can enjoy having a romanization that is provided by a template that allows standardization and flexibility because: | |||
* using a template specific for inputting Japanese text provides uniformity on how Japanese text is presented | |||
* the "Japanese:" text can be made to only appear on the article's lead through a parameter in the template | |||
* the fact that editors can use the template in a very simple way to present text differently according to needs | |||
* would avoid blatantly useless translations of Japanese text when the official English text is already the same | |||
While I might agree that there needs to be consistency, thinking again makes me change my opinion on the matter. It should be accurate to what is being presented and saying "Generation III" instead of "FireRed and LeafGreen" when it clearly pertains to those games only is ridiculous since they are part of the generation and not the games that represent the whole generation. It's illogical to think and do otherwise. | |||
About the code, why is it being replaced? The code grants that the text in the template appears as it should instead of what the browser wants it render as. <code>…</code> forces a browser to render the proper ellipsis while <code>⋯</code> renders the properly midline horizontal ellipsis characteristic to languages such as Japanese. | |||
This is my two cents on these matters. It'd make this wiki far more reliable than what it is, help the content be truly encyclopedic and accurate and we could get a better repo on the Internet for being a good source of information.
