Hello, I am new to Bulbapedia, I created a page called "Japanese preview", may you please check it out and tell me what you think. If you want you can change or edit it to make it more understanding. pika..pika.... :)

Hey. Saw the message you left on my page. I understand; it just didn't say anything about tests/"studies" being done to prove that. An0nymous 02:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. What do you want me to do differently with the new articles that I create? I read the manuel of style and it didn't get what I should to to make articles that you don't have to clean up. Please tell me. Carnivine 2 March 2007

That friggin' move war

Hello, I am a new user (15 Feb) and I noticed that the dub name of Masago town was Sandgem Town, which I didn't see a source so i moved the page. After a little "move war" a user named Maxim left a note on my user talk.

Idiots! (==)

Because of your stupid move war you completely messed up Sandgem/Masago Redirect! It IS mentioned in Episode. So, there ARE SOURCES! The name is O.F.F.I.C.I.A.L! And stop fighting --Maxim 19:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

After I removed it because I thought it was disresceptful, he left another one

Another fool with oversized ego. You were FIGHTING. Edit fight = VANDALISM! So, I have to respect vandalisms? Since when? This is a wiki. This is not place for fighting. If you want to fight, marry each other. --Maxim 19:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

The user is being rude and disresceptful. May you please talk to Maxim and please remove my mistake..

He is. But you're still wrong. Sorry. --Pie ~ 19:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Who cares you're a newbie, Johanpika. The one who is guilty is YOU because you started the edit war which is considered as vandalism. I'm sick of your oversized ego. STFU, man! The one who should be permablocked is YOU! --Maxim 19:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey! Keep that sort of fighting to your own talk pages. Either kiss and make up or get off my talk page. --Pie ~ 19:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Why haven't we done something about Maxim yet? --FabuVinny 23:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Good question... what do you suggest? --Pie ~ 23:37, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Eternal ban from the Internet for three years. --Paperfairy 20:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Very funny. --Maxim 21:07, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Lets make it five years, then. Carnivine
Anyone still bother bout this?
P.S.Eternal means frever, so a ban that lasts forever for three months won't make sense.

It is being caused by a bug in my computer. I'm working to fix it. Carnivine

Okay, good. Because it's been annoying me a lot. --Pie ~ 21:14, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm making some progress, however, could you help me and put a "u" on the "Pikach" on my page. My computor won't let me. I can't get the bug out until tommorrow because I need a password to do it and I won't see the person who has it until then. Carnivine
I got it fixed. I can type Pikachu now. Carnivine

How to you revert changes? Carnivine

Editors have a rollback link. I think all users have undo links, though. --Pie ~ 04:02, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Carnivine

How do I figure out how many contributions I have? Must I count them all? Carnivine

Zhen Lin has a database scanning tool for his "Top Contributors" list but you can make at least an estimate by making use of the number of edits displayed on a page to simplify the counting. For the record, you have made 167 edits. (50+50+50+17) --FabuVinny 23:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

How do I upload a new image? Carnivine

You have to do it over at the archives. --Pie ~ 18:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

The Card Game project

Hey, I was wondering a few things about the Pokémon Trading Card Game project. See, I don't really think we need to sort the cards in the category by the card number. I've been doing my best to avoid them, you see. See, I've been thinking through the aspects of the project for a while now, and I think that it would be a lot easier to make it work if we avoided using the numbers. I believe I have spoken on this before, but using the numbers would make it a lot harder to keep everything from English and Japanese together.

On another note, thanks for making all of those categories for Pokémon in the TCG. Actually, I was thinking of another idea to further categorize them by Pokémon and by name (for such cards as Blaine's Vulpix), but I thought that it might make too many tiny categories. What do you think about categories for specifically named Pokémon, Trainer Cards, and Energy Cards? I'm thinking of having Trainer Cards and the like have separate articles for the Trainer Card's name and prints of the card. So there would be, say, "Bill (TCG)" and "Bill (Base Set)." If a card said something along the lines of "Search your deck for a card named Bill," it would link to "Bill (TCG)," which would list all cards with that name. What do you think of all of this? -Happy Mask Man 02:26, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

We can find alternatives for the Japanese-only cards, sort them into categories with *'s instead of numbers. But overall, given all the other naming and sorting options, the number system is the best one I've seen that makes any sense and is closest to being universal. I really don't think many people distinguish these cards using the levels written on them, you know? So why should we?
I think that might make the categories too small, yes. As far as trainer cards... that's a difficult one. On one hand, we should disambig between any cards with the same name and different text... but not reprints of the same card, like every card in Base Set 2... so I do think we should have trainer cards noted by set. But at the same time, if there's only one version of a card ever - there's no reason for a disambig. Like, for example, if besides reprints there's only one Bill (Base Set), Bill (TCG) should just redirect to that.
Most other people have given up on trying to organize the TCG articles - I believe Zhen confirmed to me that he has over AIM - and I'm one of the few who's still trying to work this out regardless of the giant headache it's giving me. So sorry if I get a little snippy about this, but this really is the most annoying section of the Bulbapedia to organize ever. --Pie ~ 03:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Eh, I just prefer the idea of having two set lists in the article on the set and having the category for the set just be organized by alphabetical order. Besides, people usually don't refer to cards by anything but the card's name and set anyway. See, between δ Delta Species Pokémon and the new Pokémon LV.X in the DP series, it seems more convenient to use levels and other universal identification in a particular series. Also, Pokémon Card GB referred to different cards of a Pokémon by their levels.
Really, I have about all of the TCG organization planned out. Level for original series, e-card ID for e-card series. In the advance series, the only cards that have the same name in the same set are cards that were from Japanese decks that were merged into an English set. Oh, and things like Unown. The DP series brings back levels and introduces a new game mechanic based on them. This organization method is based on universalness. It also helps to better organize cards that switch around from set to set from Japanese to English. As for Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection, since they're total reprint sets, I'm not planning on having separate articles for cards reprinted there. I do plan on having articles for other reprints of cards though. Things a reprint of Potion in some set would get a separate article.
The only thing that I haven't been completely sure of is making separate articles for Trainer cards that only get one print as the main article for the card and for its print in a set. I guess that if there's only one print, it could be a redirect... Then again, things like TM06 get their own articles... I'm not too sure on this issue. I have most everything else planned out. I guess it's just a matter of getting everyone to agree now. I really believe that this project can work. -Happy Mask Man 04:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Fine. Whatever. I really don't even care anymore. I've been working my butt off trying to find some way to organize that section - I should be glad someone else is taking it on. --Pie ~ 04:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Now that I am recategorizing articles, what should I do with the English number for cards that have holo and non-holo versions? -Happy Mask Man 05:47, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
If the non-holographic versions of cards all have to have separate articles now, could the holographic version at least keep the default name and have the non-holographic version say "Non-holo" in the title? -Happy Mask Man 21:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Why? --Pie ~ 21:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Because they're the originals and also listed first in the numbers you love so much. -Happy Mask Man 21:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Ugh. If you insist. --Pie ~ 21:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Excuse me admin Pie, but while looking on the block log I noticed that KillerCRS had been blocked one month ago for the same offense he committed today. I suggest perhaps a permablock. Carnivine

Made a mess, help me fix it...

Hi, I left the same message on Fabu-Vinny's page several days ago but apparently he hasn't seen it yet...

I'm really sorry, but it seems I missed a rule and made a tiny mess... I created an article about the song "You & Me & Pokémon", but the 2 "&"s are creating some problems. Can you change it to "and"s please? Thanks!--ElectAbuzzzz 09:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Heads up

Dragonite keeps moving pages around, and I'm not sure if they knows what they're doing or not. He moved Blue (game) to Kinkajou for some reason, and now he moved Leaf (game) to Green (game). Just wanted to make you aware. --PAK Man 03:03, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm fully aware. -_-' --Pie ~ 03:04, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah. I figure that there's any number of explanations for it - different Seel, Brock forgot, Brock thought Seel looked better with them than Dewgong - but from the most literal view of it, it's an error. ^^o --Pie ~ 14:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I guess someone as technical as you already knows this, but here's a shorter shortcut to "é" you can recommend to other editors: ALT+130 (maybe yours is more correct because of the amount of digits and all that... :S). Also I wonder if there's a way to insert them in Bulbapedia edit fields via a button combination of ALT and some other letter for example. I notice the Manual of Style has a section about "é and other characters", but it doesn't advise how to input them (character palette, ALT, etc.). --Johans 17:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Huh, no, I didn't know that. Well, 0233 is sort of already ingrained into my memory.. ^^o As for an even shorter shortcut, if anyone would know, it'd be Zhen, so bug him about the idea. --Pie ~ 18:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey. o.o
What does "KYAPISU" mean, exactly? I have absolutely no idea, but *his* use of it is really starting to piss me off.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 19:15, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I tend to, when upset and explaining policy and the like to someone, end with "Capisce?", which is Italian for "Understand?" and used in slang. From what I understand, he's gotten into the habit of using it as well, but in Japanese romanization sort of spelling. I don't know if it's a way of mocking me or just coincidence. But it bugs me a lot. --Pie ~ 19:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Aha. I know what "capisce" means, I'm Italian on my dad's side, but. Yeah. That's a...strange thing for him to do. >>; "kyapisu". That lso means he doesn't know how it's pronounced, since it should be a "shu" or something at the end. Anyway.
...hasn't this guy ever actually gotten in trouble? Seems like a given by now.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 23:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I believe "su" = "shu" in Japanese, actually. But anyway, we've mostly given him a lot of warnings. He tends to back off when we point out that he's crossing the line. If he oversteps his authority again any time soon, he will probably get a temporary ban. --Pie ~ 23:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Content

I just selected Recent Changes and saw this: [2]. It was I who suggested this; was I in error? Since Wikiproject Pokemon over there IS trying to encourage its members (including me) to use any info from there to fix up articles here... -WarthogDemon 19:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Bulbapedia and Wikipedia have incompatible licenses, I'm afraid. And different styles, if you didn't notice; I'm rather particular about standardizing the headings in the Pokémon species articles. I believe you can, however, incorporate the information if you rework it so the text isn't the same, matches Bulbapedia's styles and standards, etc. We welcome the contribution, it's just the importing that's trouble.
Though... what is going on there that prompted this? --Pie ~ 19:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
They do?!? Wow; I thought we did have compatible licences . . . basically there has been several months of discussion to a consensus that we merge all the pokemon to lists (20 per article). This has caused an alarm to some pokemon fans complaining about how there's a lack of content now. So we've directed them here. I'll tell them on the Project's talk page that if they get the content from Wikipedia's articles, they'll have to rework them and not just copy/paste. Sorry for the miscommunication, and don't worry; I doubt you'll have a massive flood of copy/pasters just yet. :p Cheers! -WarthogDemon 19:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Christ, really? That sucks, and doesn't sound like the best solution. But yes, unfortunately, Bulbapedia has a different license than Wikipedia, and it does create some problems... --Pie ~ 20:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Clarifying: the reason we're doing the merges in the first place is to make the Pokemon pages better organized, as some of the articles were not conforming to Wikipedia's policies and were litered with fan/gameplay info to the point where that was most of what an article was. -WarthogDemon 20:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I see. I'm aware that the Pokémon articles have been the subject of debate for a while now... --Pie ~ 20:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
So it has. I hope we haven't accidentally allowed mayhem to run amok here. Anyway if you want the full stories, here's the page: [3]. Yes it's big so feel free to skim. :p I myself didn't like the merges at first, but after reading the reasoning behind it all I found myself agreeing. Plus, it's given me a reason to make my inactive account active here. I've been meaning to use this for months... anyways hope I can become a good contributing member here. :) -WarthogDemon 20:12, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
... wow. Uh. Well, yes, everyone's welcome here, and the information is definitely so, even if it may take a while to incorporate into the articles. We could use the additional support, in fact.
At least now I know my time as the acting editor in chief while Zhen Lin's away won't be boring... --Pie ~ 20:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I was actually thinking it was a bad idea at first too, though I can see now why they decided to do so and support it. Plus, each Pokemon do have descriptions about it like [4]. (The lists look a bit like pokedex pages now if you ask me.) And some articles are being considered for staying. Pikachu, so far, is a definite keeper. -WarthogDemon 20:35, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Pokémon movie

I redid the Pokémon movie page to a new style which includes the official japanese poster, and the cute Pikachu logo. May you see if it looks nice enougth to keep it how it is! I hope you understand that It took me a while to reorganize the page.

Also I made another page entitled "Template:Wikitable" to make the table look neater. Please fell free to tell me what you think of the page. Also please fill free to include the American poster if its needed.

Is it necessary for us to create a page for the 11th movie? Is it to early to? (In The Anime Department = Movie 11 revealed)

Let's Talk 2.0

Hey Pie I have a suggestion for the video game selection. How about actually deleting the Smash Bros. series??? Come on, the series only has a little to do with Pokémon through the addition of playable characters such as Pikachu! In my opinion, that isn't part of the Pokémon series. Instead, it's in a completely different genre by itself with just some playable Pokémon characters. themaestro2.0 05:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

In my opinion, people have shown themselves to be quite interested in that information. If you don't care about that information... then that's fine. You don't have to read it. --Pie ~ 05:45, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

The map

You're the one who uploaded the newest Pokémon World Map to archives, right? You say it's resized, right? Where did you get the full-sized map? I need it so badly. Please help me. Thanks in advance. --Maxim 18:43, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Altomare Latios sent it to me. --Pie ~ 20:54, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh. Good. He doesn't give his files to random guys. Okay, I guess I'll never see the full map, unless he decides to upload it somewhere. But thanks for infomation anyways. --Maxim 07:33, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I still have the full version on my files. Maybe if you asked nicely, I could send it to you. --Pie ~ 16:31, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Dear Pie, could you send me the full Altomare Latios's map? It's not like the smaller version doesn't satisfy me, but I'm a collector, so the big version would satisfy me much more than that. If you don't mind, please send it to me, if it's not a problem. Of course, if you don't feel like sending me it, I can live with it. Thanks in advance, anyway. --Maxim 18:08, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I'll need your e-mail address. --Pie ~ 18:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, no problem. maxim.rulez <at> . Gurashie. --Maxim 18:13, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I got it. Wow, it's huge. Arigatou. Grazie. Merci. Dziękuję. Spasiba. Whatever. I promise not to leak it anywhere on the net... because I want to keep that precious thing for myself... I mean... because I'm loyal. Thanks again. --Maxim 18:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
You don't have to be so private about it. The only reason I didn't upload the full size version on here is because Archives wouldn't take it at that size. --Pie ~ 18:28, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Mew (anime)

Oh, well, sorry. That article took a half an hour, (I'm a slow typer), then when I finished it, I din't have any time then. That understandable? And I also didn't know that the (anime) Pokemon articles are for characters, I thought it was just to much to fit in the anime section of the Pokemon's article. Theee, Glalie Guy♂

It is for characters, yes. We tend to type the anime information into the species articles ourselves, and keep the detailed information in a separate article. --Pie ~ 16:31, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I get them from Pokeani, sorry if I didn't do something right --jupiternebula1

No, it's all right... I made the same mistake, and started adding those ages to the timeline. But do you see how the ages are labeled as "年齢(推定)"? Stick that in Babelfish and you get "Age (presumption)". Meaning that most of them are estimated. So, unless there's another source for the ages (for many, that'd be in-anime mentions; Brock's age is on official sketches of his character, though to be honest I've heard this information from sources I trust, but have not seen the images myself...) --Pie ~ 17:35, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. But since I can't delete pages, the proper moving is hard (well, impossible) for me. So, what should I do next time? Ask an admin for moving page, or what? --Maxim 19:36, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, ask an admin to make the move. --Pie ~ 20:05, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Skibadee has posted hentai on Meowth's page. I already reverted the edits. But I recommend that he/she be banned indefinately. Because I feel that this well probably happen again. - Kenji Girl 01:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

What do you think?

Do you think the original design of Jynx is a racist stereotype of African-Americans?

I don't like making assumptions. There are some things about Jynx which match that awful design, and then there are some things which seem out of place if that was their intent. I think if there was any inspiration from it, it wasn't an intended or malicious insult to African-Americans. But the fact remains that there are people still offended by Jynx, so. --Pie ~ 17:18, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

The category I created.

Yeah, sorry, I don't know anyone either that calls it HP, it was a typo. So anyway, do you think my category is useful? TheBlazikenMaster 18:55, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, I got no answer, but I think you like it, since you fixed the name. TheBlazikenMaster 19:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
It's not significantly useful, but neither is it useless. If that makes sense. --Pie ~ 19:24, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Shipping Redirects

I believe you're the appropriate person to go to regarding this, if not I apologize.

It seems before viewing pages about shipping it still gives you a pointless warning before letting you enter. I believe this came as a result of drama between Archaic and WPM, which is now pretty irrelevant since they ended affiliation long ago over some trivial issue. Just thought I'd try and clear out some of the clutter in the Wiki. Thanks. --Porygon 12:41, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm not entirely sure if they're necessary now, either. However, I'll have to discuss it with Zhen, and if they're moved out of that Shipping namespace, I'm sure he'll have a way to do it as quick and painlessly as possible. --Pie ~ 16:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

A small question

You told my friend that my knowledge never surprised you, right? Without my edits, would you know all those Korean names, or would you know what is Miracle Cycle, or what is Eusine's role in Golden Boys? I think I can make some articles about that manga. But do you need my lil' useless knowledge? I love your ways to appreciate someone's work. --Maxim 18:06, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

No, no, you misunderstand as usual. It's not that I think you're useless. It's that I'm enough of a geek about this too that I don't get all shocked and awed about what you know and think your vast knowledge is amazing (for example, I kind of laughed that you used Miracle Cycle as an example, because from my perspective anyone who plays the games and reads the signs should know what that is). We have a lot of bright minds here at Bulbapedia. Yours isn't exactly outshining anyone.
On that note, I lol'd when he said you seriously think people are voting for ads on Bulbapedia merely to spite you. --Pie ~ 18:15, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah, wait, that's right. I almost forgot that the games don't use the name Miracle Cycle in English. Hmm. Wonder where I picked up that piece of trivia, then. --Pie ~ 18:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
He told you everything. I used Miracle Cycle as an example because it never had a name in English versions. Someone who plays English versions don't know what it is. (Actually nevermind, because you noticed that [and caused an edit conflict]) Anyways, this friend requires some kind of apology because I insulted him... kinda. I'm just afraid I won't be able to tell him anything 'cause I'm leaving tommorow morning. But I'm not going to litter your discussion. I'm getting away from here. --Maxim 18:22, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

What will it take for this article to ever attain featured article status? I've worked very hard on it and so has Shiningpikablu252, mostly indirectly. No TCG articles are featured, and I (being involved with Pokémon mainly, but not completely, through the TCG) would love to see one. OMG! look at this[5]! This could be the same person as Roflcopter3 the Wiki-Vandal!--Pokencyclopedia 12:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

You appear to be the person to talk to. This site needs a sig policy, like, NOW. These sigs are insultingly huge, most likely lag the wiki, disrupt pages, and are inaccurate. Some even have outside links to things like youtube. I don't know much about policy making, but this site's policy is excellent. Seriously, artful sigs are nice, and within reasonable limits make a wiki easier on the eyes. But these sigs lend an air of illegitimacy:

There is a torrent of others, but these are the ones that stand out to me. Hope you take it into consideration, and thanks for reading.Dark0805 18:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Updated list a bit, lol.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 18:43, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
I believe mine is good enough now. I AM Ivan, by the way...Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 06:24, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

What's wrong with my sig????? I see nothing wrong on how Bulbapedia's polocies run. --Theryguy512 22:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

You also have some link on your userpage:

Guru Guildwiki PvX

did you read what i said? its the fact that there isnt a policy that i'm annoyed about and trying to change. and also, i think you may have misunderstood. you can have whatever you want on a userpage, but i was linking to your userpage because your sig was what it was. read my reasons in the original message.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 14:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I see what your saying about our signatures and linking to other sites, but I DO NOT agree wtih you. What difference does it make if you link to sites on your sig or your User Page! And frankly, I don't link to other sites at all..... --Theryguy512 22:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

For me, it's mostly the use of so many (big) sprites and such lengthy use of wikicode. TTEchidna 22:15, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
OH MY GOD IT'S A LINK THAT DOESN'T LEAD TO BULBAPEDIA IT'S GONNA BURN AND WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIEEEEEEEE is what I'm getting out of this. 281Tinaδ 22:16, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the issue here is with the pictures, not the links. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Tina, therry, please read, please. thery, you have yet to realize that i wasnt talkign about you when i said linking, so get over it, and read who i am referncing in the links. tina, outside links arent necessarily bad, but they arent good, either. Its the images. they'r huge.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 16:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see now... big images (*cough*EMERALD ANIMATIONS ARE THE MORE DISTRACTING AND NO-NOS OF THEM ALL*cough*) are a problem... although, I have an outside link and nobody complained about it.. although it's my own site, and it's not for advertising purposes. Rather, I forget the URL all the time..! Use the MS, guys. If you want shiny sprites badly, I'm getting them done... Emerald sprites are probably the worst things to use in a signature, as they have like... a 90% chance looking like absolute bleh, and they're distracting. :P 281Tinaδ 17:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Mine isn't too bad is it? TESHTALKFUN 18:18, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
In general, there are both aestetic and technical considerations. I know less than nothing about the state of this site's servers, but many wiki's simply hate having >1 image sigs. They create lots o lag. However, there is a workaround to this, namely, screenshotting your sig, and uploading its pictures, and making it your sig. This makes 1 image containing all the images you had(i do that on some wikis with policy). However, aestetic considerations are just as important. Tesh, for instance, has legally sized images(by most wiki standards), but far too many of them. I don't know of a policy that restricts invasive colors, but tesh's does push the limit on that. Also, one thing many wikis have a problem with is using their images to make a sig. The reason being, you end up accidentally clicking on say, tesh's polygon(w/e the hell pokémon that is), and suddenly, you havent found tesh, but instead found the image.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 19:20, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Ahh, I see.. TESHTALKFUN 19:23, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Here's a little more evidence to bad things a long sig can do:
  • scroll from the top to the bottom of this page
  • then scroll from the top to the bottom of this page.
See the difference? Long lines of wiki code devoted to nothing but images the size of a building.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 19:39, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Figured out a great solution for a shorter code. Make your signature template, and then a template (Making both in the User namespace, mind you) containing the signature template, and then go to Preferences, adding in the code for the template that contains the signature template. (template template template template) For example, I added 'User:TinaTheKirlia/Signature' instead of the one that holds the code, 'User:TinaTheKirlia/Sig'. Much, MUCH shorter code. (And it auto-updates signatures. Wooooo.) Tina δ 19:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Ouch, that's generally a no-no. If you contribute to a lot of pages (you already do, I believe), you'll end up with your signature on lots of talk pages. Then, say you or, god forbid, someone else edits your signature template page? The Wiki now needs to update every page with a signature on it, and trust me, it doesn't take as much as you'd think to crash a server. :P
Generally, you can find some fairly short coding for a lot of things you might use. For example, Tesh's signature uses <span style="color:#F05030;">'''TESH'''</span>, when you could also use <font color="#F05030>'''TESH'''</font> and get the same result. Not a huge difference, but if you're using multiple colors in one signature, it adds up.
Another thing, on the subject of signature images: you can add |19x19px]] into the image link, and it'll resize. For example:
...and suddenly, it fits a lot better. Doesn't stretch out the page like crazy, so it's much easier to read. And doesn't stand out too much either.
And on the subject of outside links, that's really only an issue on bigger sites, I think. (Although Bulbapedia is one of the bigger Pokémon sites out there.) Basically, people could stick a link to their own website in their signature or something, and now, they've got links on every page of the wiki, practically. Not amazing by advertising standards, but it's still a free ride. Weather or not a Wiki allows or disallows outside links is really dependant on the Wiki itself though, it's not necessarily a bad thing on it's own. Hope that clears up a few things... -- Jioruji Derako.> 22:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, but the flip side to not substing the sig on every page is, if you change your sig, it changes everywhere. That way, it can always be recognised who posted, even if your sig takes on a radically different look. Plus, it also doesn't look like you're making a really good talk contribution. I often gauge the worth of reading a particular talk post by the number of bytes added (which can be seen on Recent Changes), and higher numbers generally mean longer posts. Except here. I've seen posts that add about 900 bytes to the page, and about 850 of them are the signature. It's ridiculous. Now here are some good signature rules. They work excellently. I've been noticing all these terrible sigs for a long while, and I'm glad we're finally getting around to discussing setting some kind of standard to them. --DarkfireTaimatsu 06:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Just to note, Darfire, that's exactly why you shouldn't use a template. Because it changes everywhere. Meaning, I edit my signature template, boom, the server now has to update fifty, a hundred, maybe even more pages, all in one shot. That's a big drag on the server. And especially if I change a picture in my signature. Using the normal subst: system might have it's drawback, but it's not a big deal normally. If you're changing your signature that often, then it's really your own fault if you end up with inconsistent signatures across different pages.
And even if you don't edit your signature template, other people can. Someone wants to vandalize the site? All they need to do is go to your signature template, and stick some massive coding in there. Having to do such a big update on so many pages at once will probably cause lag at the very least, if not crashing the entire server. -- Jioruji Derako.> 11:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
But most vandals wouldn't know that. But now they will when they see THAT. Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 11:32, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Most vandals don't go checking user talk pages for helpful ways to vandalize. Trust me, most vandals would know about that stuff... remember the vandal a little while ago who was impersonating admins here? had one just like him on GuildWiki a week or so ago, taking advantage of the fact that lower-case "L" looks like upper-case "I" (lIllI, can you see the difference). And days later, a vandal tried the same trick on another wiki. Never underestimate vandals; they generally vandalize because they know all this stuff, it makes them feel "smart" when they can do so much damage like that.
And if we had a policy that prevented people from using templates, then it wouldn't matter either way, which is my point. -- Jioruji Derako.> 06:51, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I really don't want this to be mean, but no offense, but I don't like new members bossing me around......I've been here since April...... --Theryguy512 22:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I love being the example... XD. TESHTALKFUN 22:19, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Not trying to boss you around here, Thery! Just suggesting some policies on signatures and whatnot. Time spent on a site shouldn't credit or discredit an idea. Dark's not trying to make you do anything here, he's only using your signature (among others) as an example of some signatures that might not be all that great for the site. Not a matter of who's better then who, but a matter of what's the better option for the website itself.
But if you want to get technical, I've been a member here since March. :P So don't think I'm a new member either, I haven't edited as much as you have, probably, but not for lack of experience or anything of the sort. -- Jioruji Derako.> 22:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh, sorry. I never sqw you edit before, so I thought you were new......--Theryguy512 02:14, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Tbh, the newness of a user should never bar his opinions from being considered. But i totally understand where your'e coming from thery, and i can say confidently both me and jioruji have experience with puffed up 2-contribution users making noises about change. However, i beseech you to realize that while i am new to this site, i am not new to wikis/wiki bueracracy. And jioruji put it perfectly, i have nothing against you, or even your sig, i have somethign against the lack of policy.Dark0805 (talk|contribs) 13:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

. . . This is the kinda stuff I miss when I disappear for mental health reasons, huh? --Pie ~ 22:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

This is the kind of stuff that makes you leave for mental health reasons, IMO. :P But I think it's mostly cleared up for now; I'm going to suggest a loose signature policy on the forums, and work things out from there. (by the way, hope your, um, mental health is feeling better. :D) -- Jioruji Derako.> 23:22, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
But I sitll don't get WHY I can't link to Youtube. It IS my favorite song, after all...Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 06:16, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
As it is, there's currently no rule that says you can't do that... just generally, if someone's clicking your signature, they expect to be taken to your userpage, not to a totally different website. People shouldn't have to worry about where that signature's going to take them when they click it. (I've personally had to get into the habit of hovering over links and checking the status bar, so I know where I'm going.)
...can't you simply post a link on your own page as well? That way, you can give a bigger, better explanation of why the song is so awesome, and why people should click it. People clicking your signature are going to end up at your userpage, so they'll see the YouTube link when they get there... -- Jioruji Derako.> 06:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, but if you roll over, you can see that the 'Ivan' links to my userpage (it states userpage) to ♥'s lead tothe Pikachu song (its says that too) and the Pikachu leads to Sh's Pikachu (I'm gonna fix that up later) Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 07:52, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Still, there's no warning that it leaves the website, unless you're keeping an eye on link targets.
Just to note, have you ever heard the original version of that song (Butterfly by Smile DK)? It's a pretty good song, I play it all the time on DDR. :P -- Jioruji Derako.> 10:45, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, how about now? Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 11:08, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Clever. That works wonderfully, actually... -- Jioruji Derako.> 11:12, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. Optimatum♏Talk|Hi 11:13, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Can you please replace the current image of Melodi with this one? This one looks better IMO. The current one just looks like if she was glaring at something. >.<

Sigh, I'll do it for you.....--Theryguy512 00:26, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Done. --Theryguy512 00:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
