Typhlosion first became available in the [[Generation II]] games, being given away as a [[starter Pokémon]] by [[Professor Elm]] to accompany the player on his or her way to [[Mr. Pokémon]]'s house on the north end of {{rt|30}}. It is unavailable in the wild, as is the case with most fully-evolved Pokémon, and must instead be evolved from a {{p|Quilava}}. Typhlosion are, through evolution, readily available only to players of {{game5|Gold|Silver|Crystal|HeartGold|SoulSilver}}, where {{p|Cyndaquil}} can be chosen as a starter, as well as {{g|Colosseum}}, where a {{shadow|Quilava}} can be snagged from [[Cipher Peon]] [[Rosso]] at the eastern entrance to [[Phenac City]]. They can also be obtained without trading in [[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness]] and {{game|Emerald}}, however, the means to do so are much more difficult and late in the game's storyline.
