User:Missingno. Master/Porygon theory
The Porygon theory is a fan-given name to the idea that Porygon was created by Team Rocket.
Evidence
- Up until Generation IV, Porygon was only available through Celadon City's Game Corner, which is run by Team Rocket.
- According to a Pokémon Report in Silph Co., Porygon was created at Pokémon Lab, of which Dr. Fuji is the founder. In the anime, Dr. Fuji is a Team Rocket scientist. Also, Pokémon Lab presumably has some connection to the Pokémon Mansion, which was where Mewtwo was created in the games. In the anime, Dr. Fuji was involved in the creation of Mewtwo.
- The only in-game trainers that use Porygon are Scientist Gideon in the Rocket Warehouse and a scientist in Goldenrod City's Radio Tower. Both scientists happen to work for Team Rocket.
Porygon-Z
It is possible that the mysterious Dubious Disc (and consequentially Porygon-Z) could be a product of Team Rocket, as its producer remains unknown, and it causes Porygon2 to evolve into Porygon-Z, which is known for being a glitch. It is possible that Team Rocket was not happy with Silph Co. for daring to Up-Grade their creation, so they decided to take matters into their own hands and anonymously create a box of data that would corrupt Porygon2's programming and cause it to evolve into Porygon-Z, possibly as revenge.
Trivia
- In the anime, though Team Rocket was clearly not responsible for creating Porygon there, Team Rocket members Jessie and James briefly owned a Porygon of their own in Electric Soldier Porygon.
