Professor Sycamore's Garchomp (Japanese: プラターヌ博士のガブリアス Dr. Platane's Gaburias) is a recurring Pokémon from the anime's XY series. She is Professor Sycamore's partner and research subject in Mega Evolution.

History

As a Gible
As a Gabite

As a Gible, Garchomp was found injured in the streets of Lumiose City by Sycamore's assistant, Alain, who brought her back to the lab. She was treated and taken in by the Professor, and the two developed a strong bond. Gible evolved into Gabite, and then immediately into Garchomp sometime before Alain left the lab with his Charmander.

Garchomp debuted in Lumiose City Pursuit!, where she was seen watching over the treatment of Froakie, who had been brought in by Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie after being injured in a battle with Team Rocket. After introducing her to his guests, Sycamore led Ash and company to the lab garden while Garchomp joined the Professor's assistant, Cosette, for research analysis.

She was later seen in the lab foyer with Cosette and Sophie, who were talking to three suspicious scientists. When Froakie jumped in and identified them as the people who attacked it, Garchomp defended it from Team Rocket's device which then attached itself to her. This caused her severe pain resulting in her going on a rampage through Lumiose City and heading to the top of Prism Tower. Once there, she was carefully approached by Ash who refused to allow Pikachu to use any moves against her since she couldn't help her behavior. Soon, with Ash and Froakie's help, the device was removed and Garchomp returned to her old self.

She reappeared in Mega Evolution Special III by Professor Sycamore's side as he watched a T.V. report about Alain's battle with Mega Rayquaza, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

She appeared in flashbacks in A Battle of Aerial Mobility! and Mega Evolution Special I.

Garchomp reappeared in Garchomp's Mega Bond!. She was planned help demonstrate the power of Mega Evolution with Mega Stones. But the demonstration was interrupted when Team Rocket showed up, stole to Mega Stone machine, and abducted Garchomp. Team Rocket tried to get Garchomp to Mega Evolve, but Professor Sycamore and the gang arrived at the scene with an unexpected appearance of a masked man called Blaziken Mask. Once Sycamore managed to Mega Evolve Garchomp, it started to go out of control. But Sycamore managed to get Garchomp to remember him, and sent Team Rocket blasting off with the help from Mega Blaziken and Pikachu. With Team Rocket gone, Garchomp returned to her trainer once again.

Professor Sycamore used Garchomp in A Towering Takeover! to protect Mairin and himself from a Team Flare Grunt and his Skorupi. Garchomp's Dragon Claw clashed with Skorupi's Poison Sting, causing a small explosion, allowing Mairin and the Professor to escape in the resulting smoke. She reappeared in the following episode to help Sycamore fight Team Flare alongside Serena, Clemont, and Blaziken Mask, where she Mega Evolved once again.

Personality and characteristics

As a Gible, she was initially timid and distrusting of Professor Sycamore, but grew friendlier towards him and Alain after being comforted by her new Trainer. Despite her fearsome appearance, Garchomp is very gentle as shown by her concern for Froakie. She is also very protective and maternal towards the Pokémon in the laboratory garden. She also enjoys company, and happily allows others to pet her. She shares a strong bond with her Trainer; strong enough to achieve Mega Evolution.
