Tri Attack does damage and has a 20% chance of either {{status|Paralysis|paralyzing}}, {{status|Freeze|freezing}}, or {{status|burn}}ing the target. Each ailment has a 6.67% chance of being inflicted.

Tri Attack can paralyze {{t|Electric}} types, burn {{t|Fire}} types and freeze {{t|Ice}} types.

===Generations III-V===

Tri Attack now cannot burn Fire types or freeze Ice types.

Tri Attack can be used as part of a [[Contest combination|Pokémon Contest combination]], with the user gaining extra two appeal points {{m|Lock-On}} was used in the prior turn.
