Thievul (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

→‎Trivia: when adding origin points it's always important to actually consider if your ideas actually match the Pokémon or not. case in point, exactly what does Thievul have to do with "Historical Figure Famous For His Failed Plot To Blow Up The British Parliament". Nickit and Thievul's tails are shaped like brooms/dusters because as mentioned in the dex they use them to wipe their tracks, saying they are shaped like bonfires is a massive reach.

===Origin===
Thievul appears to be based on the {{wp|red fox}}, possibly borrowing patterns from the {{wp|cross fox}}, a variation of the red fox. Its gray shiny coloration resembles that of {{wp|silver fox (animal)|silver foxes}}, another variation of the red fox. Its facial features and moustache-like whiskers also bear a resemblance to stereotypical depictions of thieves and burglars, as well as the {{wp|gentleman thief}} trope and {{wp|Zorro}}. Its front legs resemble gloves, which thieves and burglars would wear. Thievul's relationship with {{p|Boltund}} may also be a reference to {{wp|fox hunting}}, where red foxes were hunted by English foxhounds, which Boltund appears to be based on.

The design of Thievul and Nickit may draw inspiration from the story of {{wp|Guy Fawkes}}, his involvement in the {{wp|Gunpowder Plot}} of 1605, and it's annual commemoration of {{wp|Guy Fawkes Night|Bonfire Night}}, which was legally mandated in the {{wp|United Kingdom}} up until 1859. Once seen as a villainous traitor trying to overthrow the government for oppressing his fellow {{wp|Catholicism|Catholics}}, his story has since become a symbol of resistance against oppression; so much so, such things as a {{wp|Guy Fawkes mask|masks resembling Guy Fawkes}} have become a part of {{wp|pop culture}}. Theivel's face appears similar in shape to depictions of Guy Fawkes, Nickit's tail appears similar in shape to a bonfire over logs, their traitorous history could be considered [[dark]], the United Kingdom is what the land of [[Galar]] is based on, Thievul and Nickit's tail tips could be mistaken as {{wp|gunpowder}} coated, and they’re foxes–a play off of Fawkes.
