Anniversary edition: Welcome to the World of Pokémon
- On February 27, 1996, Game Freak revealed their newest games, Red and Green.
- The project took six years to make, and nearly drove the company into bankruptcy. Five employees left the company due to the lack of funding, and Satoshi Tajiri worked most nights unpaid.
- Before Shigeru Miyamoto pitched in to help, the series was originally called Capsule Monsters.
- The games exploded in Japan's market, and latger spawned a Trading Card Game, and various manga series until later getting its very own cartoon series.
- The series has since expanded to five generations of games, 15 seasons of the anime, hundreds of volumes of manga, and thousands of trading cards all across the world.
- In celebration for the anniversary, all Generation I Pokémon species articles will feature their artwork from Red and Green Versions.
