Taunt (Japanese: ちょうはつ Taunt) is a non-damaging Dark-type move introduced in Generation III. It has been TM12 in every game since Generation III except in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, where it is TM02.

Effect

Generation III

Taunt makes the afflicted Pokémon unable to use status moves. The effect lasts two turns or until the subject is switched out. Unlike most status moves, Taunt will affect a target with a substitute. On the turn that Taunt is used, if the Pokémon using Taunt goes before the target and the target selected a status move that turn, the target's move will fail. If a Pokémon that only knows status moves is taunted, or is taunted after using a status move and holding a Choice item, then it will be forced to use Struggle.

Taunt can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing Counter, Detect, and Mirror Coat to give extra two appeal points if used in the next turn.

Generation IV

The duration of Taunt is now between three and five turns.

Taunt can now be copied by Mirror Move.

Generation V

The duration of Taunt is now three turns if the user acts before the target, or four turns if the target acted before the user.

Taunt can now be reflected with Magic Coat and no longer affects Me First.

Generation VI onward

Pokémon with Oblivious or under the effect of Aroma Veil cannot become taunted.

Taunt can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing certain moves (Counter, Destiny Bond, Grudge, King's Shield, Metal Burst, Mirror Coat, and Spite) to give an extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.

Taunt will not prevent the target from using a status Z-Move.

If powered up by a Darkinium Z into Z-Taunt, the user's Attack rises one stage.
