Tracey is hated?

He really doesn't seem to get as much hate as, say, Max or Richie. Even May got more hate back in 2003 than Tracey gets. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:12, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I only really see people thinking he's gay or something, and kind of being the 'over there' guy.. not much else, really. As far as I can tell, at least... Tina δ 22:53, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Where does it say he is "hated?" -ニョロトノ666
Reall late comment but, just look at FanFiction.net. Practically half of the fan fiction about Tracey involves him getting killed. Ugh... I can't stand Tracey haters. --'ケンジ'ガール 09:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Dodrio?

He has a Dodrio? Since when? --Maxim 14:13, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

It's there in the page's history: "He was seen riding one in The Lost Lapras in a flashback scene so don't go automatically erasing it" by Kenji-girl Netto-kun Talk 15:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I think we would know if he still hade it. Cerberus

Which is why it says "Status unknown". If it really is his, for all we know it's being kept at his hometown, wherever that is. --'ケンジ'ガール 08:26, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Should the reason why Tracey was concieved be mentioned in the Article?

Ok, in light of the Interview with Masamitsu Hidaka about two days ago, he mentioned that the reason why they created Tracey was as a safeguard should Brock be bashed for being a racist character, and since the fanbase's reaction towards Brock was very good in america, they decided to bring Brock back. Should this be mentioned in the article, or at least Brock's article? I mean, the GS ball was allowed in, why not this?

BTW, I'm only allowing the Brock/Tracey thing in because they cover the past. If this was happening in the present or especially the future, I can't add it in since he doesn't really have any influence towards the show as of right now, and besides which, unless I'm mistaken, he doesn't even work on Pokémon anymore.

Weedle Mchairybug 14:34, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

You just said on Misty's talk page that Hidaka is just an animator and he isn't important. So when he's not talking about your favorite character not coming back you find what he says worthy? And how is Brock a racist character? This sounds more far fetched than the interview about Misty.
Also, Brock's influence on America had NOTHING to do with him coming back. He was already back in the anime BEFORE America knew he was gone. Remember, the airing came one year after the original Japanese date, therefore the American fans probably knew nothing about it do to the lack of Internet activity at the time.
This story doesn't hold, therefore I don't think it should be added in. --ケンジガール 19:49, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
First off, I only said this about Misty because it dealt with a future event (Notice how I didn't jump the gun and edited the Ash article to say that he and pikachu were "confirmed" (quote gesture) to be remaining on the main cast or how I didn't try to edit Butterfree's, Pidgeot's, Primeape's, Lapras's, Larvitar's, and Haunter's Pages to say that they are bound to make an appearance in the future just because he said so). I'm only requesting of this because this dealt with a PAST event. See, since he was dealing with a past event, where the past is done, this has top priority. It's no different than what you guys did with the GS ball and the Celebi articles.
I also take it that you didn't actually read the part about his admission. From the interview:
"This next paragraph is rather interesting. I asked him why they dropped Brock like a rock in the Orange Islands, and if they ever intended on his absence being temporary. He started to explain that they like to “switch up” the cast once in a while, and that was their first time doing it. Then I made sort of a “that’s obvious” face, and he started to talk for quite some time to the translator. The translator began to explain that the Japanese crew felt that Brock might be viewed as racist by the American people because of his eyes, and that they were even fearful of it when Pokemon first came to America. I asked if anyone ever complained, and he said no, but it was just that they were worried someone might eventually. So, they brought in a tall, white, Anglo-looking character to replace him, just to be on the safe side. Going back to the first interview with Mr. Hidaka, he had said they had to consider other countries when Pokemon started to go global, so this mentality fits even here, especially with the whole Jynx incident. So then I asked, “Why did you bring him back?” and he responded that “we realized no one really cared about it and liked Brock, so we brought him back.” It appears that if they had not changed their decision, Professor Ivy might have been Brock’s true soul mate."
The Italic's part dealt with what they thought would have happened in America had Brock still remained in the main cast when it came here (in other words, they replaced him out of paranoia). The bolded part is where they realized that America didn't care about that, and liked brock.
I know you are a fangirl of tracey, but I'm pretty sure this should be mentioned in his article, or at the very LEAST Brock's article. And I'm only allowing this because it covered a PAST event. Had this been a future event or a present event, I won't have easily let it into the article. Weedle Mchairybug 15:05, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
How exactly are Brock's eyes offensive to Americans? ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 15:15, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I can't pretend that I know the answer, but I can guess that it might have something to do with the... hate to mention it, but... "WWII JAP" stereotype where they are depicted as being womanizers and having slits for eyes. I mean, it was similar to the Jynx controversy, where they deemed Jynx to be an offensive depiction of African Americans just because she had big lips and her face was black (Ironically, that was the only aspect of her body that was even black.) Weedle Mchairybug 15:24, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
The Jynx thing I understand because of the whole Blackface thing. Before African Americans were allowed to be on television shows and movies white people used to paint the skin on their faces black and leave their lips. Such an act is not tolerable in this day and age anymore. But the Brock thing? I would think that perpetuating a Japanese stereotype would more likely offend them, not Americans. It's just confusing to me. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 15:34, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, ok, maybe they were concerned about the Americans of Japanese descent being offended by it (I'm sorry, I really don't understand how they would fear that America would deem it "racist" that they had a japanese character who looked remotely japanese.) Weedle Mchairybug 15:47, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
That being said, it is their "official" reason for not including Brock in the Orange arc of the anime, so I feel that it should be mentioned. On this page in regards to why Tracey was created, and on Brock's page as to why he was missing during that arc. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 18:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

How long has Hidaka been off the staff? You stated that this interview was in 2008? I thought you said he said this a long time ago and there for it was more valid than his statement about Misty. I think these interviews happened around the same time... And from what I know, Hidaka worked on the recent movie. --ケンジガール 02:21, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

No, no, I said (or at least meant) the EVENT that he was referring to happened a long time ago, and since he was still the director at that time (remember, Tracey debuted and left during the second season, the OI saga, so it's valid here), I considered it to be valid. the Misty thing, however, was less valid since, while both took place during the present day, the Tracey thing was referencing a Past event, whileas the Misty thing was referencing a present/future event. Plus, as Kasumi (the BMGf mod, I mean) and even WPM would tell you, as of right now, he barely has any influence in regards to the series as of right now, and they also hinted at him leaving the series in the near future. and besides which, the writers will also possibly change their minds anyways (While WPM and Kasumi said it's unlikely, even they admitted the possibility of their changing their minds in regards to Misty.). Weedle Mchairybug 19:08, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I see where he's coming from. We were only 43 episodes into the anime here when Tracey was introduced in Japan, and so they figured that once it hit the mainstream, they'd be dead meat with Brock. So they replaced him just in case, and let the rest of Kanto play out here. However, they realized long before Tracey's debut here that people just didn't give a damn what Brock looked like, and so he was brought back. Remember how the interview said that they plan episodes six months in advance? They were planning Tracey's debut just around the time Ash got his Volcano Badge in Japan, and just a month before Red and Blue and anime were set to come out here.
They couldn't undo all the episodes they had already, so they decided to get rid of Brock at the end of Kanto. But by the time they were set to plan out the last episode without Brock, in the US we were already up to the birth of the stupid leech, and so they realized that no one cared what Brock looked like. Therefore, he came back. Forever. TTEchidna 19:37, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Question?

Are the episodes in which he appears in outside of Diamond & Pearl classed as canon? 15:32, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

He never appeared in the DP series. Do you mean the Orange Islands filler season? Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 15:43, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I figured it was that. Haven't watched the TV series in a long time. ^_^

Voice Actor

Craig Blair only voiced Tracey in one episode, and he left in Season 12. So should we really say that Craig Blair is Tracey's current voice actor? サトシ 00:04, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Tracey hasn't had any speaking roles since that one episode Craig Blair played him. Since this is the last person to voice him it's really not fair to assume he has a new voice actor until he has another speaking role with a new voice actor. --Pokemaster97 00:20, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Only companion not to be based on an in-game character?

This is in the article: "Tracey is the first and so far the only companion not to be based on an in-game character."

Doesn't Max fit this as well, though? Gear-Richie (talk) 15:01, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Max is based on the RSE School Kid, which is a game character. Kai * the Arc Toraph 15:10, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Bug types

This may be a minor thing for Trivia, but isn't he also the only main recurring character to ever own 2 Bug type Pokémon at the same time? - unsigned comment from BugsAreBest (talkcontribs)

That way too minor and specific.--ForceFire 13:12, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

wondering when first use of Sketchit surname in dub for Kenji was

Does anyone know if in EP084 (Lost Lapras) he introduces himself by his full name, or if the surname Sketchit got introduced in a later episode?

Reason I'm curious is I noticed a similar surname "Sketcher" used in a couple European film magazines published in 2001, which you can see at https://www.google.com/search?q=%22tracey+sketcher%22&tbm=bks

Once instance I could write off as a mistake but TWO makes me wonder if possibly SketchER was floated around by Pokemon production as a tentative surname (and perhaps with production notes listing that sent out to European film review magazines?) but then changed to SketchIT during the final draft of the film.

Is it possible that the FILM was actually where the surname was introduced?

There is presently no etymology section here explaining the actual source of where/when we found out the last name. It's the kind of thing probably not spoken every single episode, so it's a good thing to know.

The overwhelming amount of sources obviously use the Sketchit spelling: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22tracey+sketchit%22&tbm=bks there only seems to be two magazines which used ER instead of IT, so obviously Sketchit is the most canon one... but I'd still like to know if we learned about it prior to 1st film or after first film. ty (talk) 08:51, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Ted Lewis JN147

Apart from his name in the credits and sounding similar to how Ted Lewis voiced him, do we have any confirmation from a reliable source stating Ted Lewis voices him in JN147?--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 21:11, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
