Move

Sorry, I accidentally created the page at Johto Guard glitch, instead of Johto guard glitch. Can a sysop please move the article? (are ordinary users allowed to move pages?) --Chickasaurus 14:34, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, you are allowed to. However, it usually requires discussion first (but in this case, it is clear that it needs to be moved, so it doesn't) --SnorlaxMonster 14:38, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Omastar?

Trading Celebi with this glitch gives Omastar in Yellow and Red/Blue. What the hell? Marked +-+-+ 18:49, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

...Wtf? I sent it to Daycare in Red, and it grow by... 253 (I think, I wasn't focused on level) levels? Daycare reached a limit of 9999$ for return. Marked +-+-+ 18:53, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it doesn't work properly with Pokémon index numbers 251-255 and the results vary for some reason. When I used Celebi, I obtained a Nidoran♀ and when another person used Celebi he obtained a Mankey. --Chickasaurus 07:40, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Maybe I'm missing something here...

Should it be explained in the article WHY it's called the Johto guard glitch? I don't see any mention of a guard anywhere, and am a bit confused. Sidnoea (talk) 06:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Johto guard glitch was the name used to refer to the glitch at the time. Pokeglitch86 may have come up with it. Unfortunately, I can't find an archived version of the thread on TRSRockin. I suspect that 'guard' just refers to the Pokémon Center attendant who normally prevents you from sending Johto Pokémon into the Time Capsule. --Chickasaurus (talk) 15:50, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Article Clarification

I'm confused. The article is not nearly as clear as it should be, and it seems like people are constantly using the term "Celebi Egg Glitch" when they're just referring to making a bad clone... which is not itself the Celebi Egg Glitch, but only a small part of it. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but a "Bad Clone" IS a ?????, ID 000, is it not? And depositing it in the Day Care and then withdrawing it will give you a ?????, ID 255? Or is the mention of the Celebi Egg Glitch valid, and I'm supposed to obtain a ????? 000 or 255 by means of an egg with one of those indexed moves as its third attack, neither of which exist? Assuming that I'm correct, and my bad clone Day Care'd and withdrawn (now with the icon of a Slowpoke) is a ?????, ID 255, why will the "guard" in front of the Time Capsule still not let my Furret through? It doesn't know any Gen II moves, and it's been placed below the ????? in my party. - Xelrog T. Apocalypse (talk) 21:10, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, the ????? shouldn't have an icon in the menu, and all the pokémon below it should also appear to not be there. However, I don't know for sure that it does that, and that is only a guess based on what I have seen in youtube videos of emulated Gen I games that have Qs and Charizard 'Ms. I haven't seen an actual ????? (FF) on an actual Gen II game. Aaay (talk) 12:19, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Move

If (as above) the name "Johto guard glitch" cannot be (or, equivalently, is not) explained, then it is an absolutely terrible name for this glitch. I don't care if it's a recognizable name, nonsense is nonsense, period. I have suggested "Time Capsule trade glitch" just to have something to put in the template, but I really don't care what it might be moved to, so long it's actually something sensible. Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:24, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Time Capsule exploit(s), maybe? After all, you're working around programming checks to cause bugs (not glitches, since that is also incorrect). SatoMew2 (talk) 19:39, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Index 00

The article says the equivalent Generation I Pokémon is not consistent on the species for ????? (00), but when I traded a ????? (00) in Pokémon Yellow, the result was a 3TrainerPoké, its theoretical equivalent. So, I thought ????? (00) normally gives its equivalent in first gen, unlike what other Bad Clones do. Does anyonye know why this happens? Tremotino (talk) 09:36, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
