Is this Standard Format considered different from the Standard Format as established by Wizards of the Coast and that I thought had been in existence since? "Standard" just references whatever is the default format for Organized Play; at the very least the WotC era-Modified formats were also "Standard" formats, as were the pre-Modified formatsThis is why a lot of us retroactively refer to the pre-Modified format as simply being the Unlimited format; we thought the name was "Standard" until WotC staff explained that "Standard" was just the term for the default format for Organized Play so it was inaccurate to refer to the Base Set through Neo Genesis pre-Modified Format as "Standard", at least in the present tense.

"Standard" was originally mistaken for a specific format, but under WotC (and I thought since) actually just refers to whatever is the default format for Organized Play.  Yes, this comment used to be longer but I realized I had unneeded additional information.
