: Is there any indication that they're "claiming and eating" dropped ingredients? If there was an accompanying "eating sound effect" along with the cry, then it's a feasible explanation, but just the Pokémon's cry alone could just as easily be them essentially complaining/scolding you for messing up the sandwich, or a general reaction to you dropping it. ::It appears there is an accompanied sound of eating. I made a sandwich and dropped several different ingredients and there were crunch sounds, scarfing down sounds and other sound effects that accompanied the cries from the Pokémon in the party.
