If you look on any of the forums that the patches to the games are posted on (projectpokemon, pokecommunity, gbatemp, etc.), you will see, almost 100% of the time, the words "Rom Hack(s)," or as Gou said, sometimes just "hacks." "Hack games" however, is a very scarcely used term.
