It closed? Well in that case it obviously wasn't actually forever... --Greengiant

His last news post was "Time began January 1, 1999, but forever is only until the end of summer, or sooner", or something like that. - 振霖T 01:47, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps it's just me, but... I can't even get the PokeFor 'dex to work, either. Or perhaps it's just some other related page that's down, that I've linked? --ANinyMouse 20:41, 6 January 2006 (CST)

Yea, it stopped working some time ago. I guess its been abandoned. - 振霖T 22:26, 6 January 2006 (CST)

Pokémon Forever's History and Legacy

(Putting this here for anyone interested.)

Pokémon Forever [PokéFor] started out on FortuneCity's Rivendell subdomain back in 1999. The site moved to Xoom near the end of the year. In late 2002, Filb started to host the site at yagb.de, and then around late 2003 or early 2004 it moved to Filb's greenchu.de.

By early 2000, PokéFor started listing game formulas and detailed information on training and breeding Pokémon. At this time, rather than using the terms "DV" and "stat exp", PokéFor introduced the terms "Individual Value" and "Effort Value".

At the time, I wasn't partial to the term "stat exp" because it didn't end in the word "value". For this reason, I adopted the Japanese fan term, 努力値 (effort value), and used this on PokéFor as "Effort Value".

Also in use in this era was Marcus Majarra's "DV". I had taken multiple possible meanings (diversification; deterministic), so I didn't know which one to use. There was also "gene" in use, but that didn't end on value. I had been using a different term of my own at that time, but it didn't really make sense, so I coined the term "Individual Value".

Something unexpected happened nearly three years later. With the release of Ruby and Sapphire, with their overhauled stat system, the fan terms split. The old terms, DV and stat exp, stayed with the color and metallic gens, and the terms popularized on PokéFor, IV amd EV, were widely adopted to refer to the values in gen 3 and beyond.
