Black Plus in Generation VII

So I just wanted to see how everyone wanted to proceed with this page now that Sun and Moon have come out. Generation VII has an equivalent in the form of the Black Plus mark. Should a new page be made? Should we rename this page and have them both listed on this page? Just wanted to see people's opinions. --HoennMaster 06:49, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

I think there's probably not enough material for two separate articles, so ideally we would find a suitable title that would cover both. As a side note, according to the VGC format rules, the new mark is called the black clover, not black plus. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:53, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
In addition to the rules document, this article call it the "Alola symbol"; however, I think the official rules document (which would be proofread a lot, or one would hope despite the most recent one saying Zygarde is legal briefly) has more weight than a single Pokémon.com article (which probably has less oversight).
I think having separate pages would result in a lot of duplicated content, since they aren't that different. I think we could make a combined page with the conjectural title "Regional symbol", based on the alternative name for the "black clover". --SnorlaxMonster 13:46, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
I am definitely in agreement on just having one page. Just didn't want to go and start adding stuff since I didn't know what the title should be and didn't know if anyone had a page in their userspace for it. --HoennMaster 20:41, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
So now we have a potential monkey wrench. It's been revealed that Pokémon transferred from the Generation I VC games will have a Game Boy symbol on their status screen. Regional symbol wouldn't really describe that. --HoennMaster 00:43, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
Something like "origin symbol" seems reasonable. Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:54, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
Might I suggest something along the lines of "generation symbol" or "generation mark"? Because unless I'm misunderstanding, it is entirely related to the generation of the game it was caught in, not the region--both the Kalos and Hoenn gen VI games get the blue pentagon. --Felthry (talk) 01:13, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
There appears to be a GO symbol as well. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:18, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
I agree that it should be moved - the article seems very focused on the Blue Pentagon instead of all five icons, even excluding the title. "Origin symbol" sounds good to me. --Celadonkey 17:43, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

(resetting indent)I can additionally confirm that the pentagon is not, in fact, blue when transferred to Gen VII, so there's further reason to move it. --Felthry (talk) 18:32, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Official name (for new page) found!

The official name for the symbols mentioned in the article is "Origin marking". Therefore, when this article is moved and/or remade, use this as the title, and refer to these symbols as such in the content of the article.

If you have Pokémon Bank and want to verify this:

  • Open Pokémon Bank.
  • Select "Use Pokémon Bank".
  • Open the Menu with the Y button.
  • Select "List".
  • Scroll to the right until your horizontal cursor is on "Marking".

You will see the option to "Find Pokémon by origin marking" on the Touch Screen. Select this option to verify that it indeed refers to the pentagon, clover, and Game Boy symbols. Haddady ~Straight Outta the Bag~ (Talk to me!) 20:48, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Then that should be the page to move it to. --Celadonkey 21:36, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Excellent. In that case, lets move this page to that title. --SnorlaxMonster 05:23, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm unfamiliar with the proper procedure for moving pages, and don't know where to find that information on this site. Should we rework the page before moving, or move the page first? --Haddady ~Straight Outta the Bag~ (Talk to me!) 06:06, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Generation II Virtual Console

What is the origin marking for Pokémon brought from Generation II games? Is is the same the Pokémon from Generation I have? Currently it is possible to transport Pokémon from Generation II using the Time Capsule, I presume, but I don't know if the Generation I games store data for Pokémon origin. Maybe in that case a Pokémon transferred from Generation II to Generation I still has the Game Boy icon. I am just guessing, I haven't had the opportunity to try it, so if anyone could do that and tell what happens, I think it'd be worthy to write something about it. Gabriel Rocha (Diby esp) (talk) 18:00, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Because game of origin data isn't stored in the Generation I games, when transferring Pokémon from Generation I to Bank, Transporter just chooses the game the Pokémon are currently in to become their game of origin. For example, if you catch a Pidgey in Pokémon Gold, then trade it to Pokémon Red, from where you send it to Bank via Transporter, its game of origin will become Pokémon Red; in Bank and the Generation VII games, its met location will be "the Kanto region". Therefore, it is not currently possible for Pokémon to have a Generation II game as its game of origin. --SnorlaxMonster 08:41, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
While that is a good thing to put on the page, it doesn't answer the case of transferring directly from Gold ans Silver. --HoennMaster 16:51, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
The update to Transporter to add compatibility with G/S isn't out yet. --Abcboy (talk) 18:10, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
I should point out that internally there are 3 game IDs (directly after the Gen I game IDs) that also correspond to the Game Boy icon, but have the location "a distant land" rather than "the Kanto region" in Pokémon Bank. These are almost certainly going to be used for Pokémon sent from the Generation II games. (See User:SnorlaxMonster/Game of origin.) --SnorlaxMonster 03:01, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Blue Pentagon name

I see that the Blue pentagon from Generation VI has official sources for its name. Has anyone seen anything post Generation VI for a name? It's been black since Generation VII so it seems it would have been updated, but I wouldn't even know where to look for that to be honest. --HoennMaster 06:06, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

I doubt it has been named since. The names typically come from rules documents for VGC, but after Gen VI there wouldn't be any need for rules documents to mention that origin mark. For the same reason, we don't have official names for the Let's Go, GB and GO origin marks. --SnorlaxMonster 11:20, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
That's kind of what I figured. I'm assuming it should be left as Blue Pentagon then since that is official? --HoennMaster 04:13, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, we should stick to the most recent official name. --SnorlaxMonster 06:15, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

BDSP Origin Mark?

Below summary is probably mark of origin for new Sinnoh games, looks like floor from Mistri Stage a bit: Asmod96 (talk) 17:03, 18 August 2021 (UTC) p20_02.jpg

what 4 Pokémon can't have Galar symbol

"Out of the available Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield outside of any of the aforementioned Pokédexes, 76 can have the Galar symbol", but there are 80 Pokémon outside of any of the SWSH Pokédexes, what 4 Pokémon can't have Galar symbol? -- Linja | Talk 12:48, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

List of Pokémon with wierd orgin marks

We should make a list of Pokemon that have orgin marks that don't make normal sense but can technically exist, like a Wrydeer with an gameboy orgin mark, or a Mr. Rime with a LA orign mark. What does everyone else think of this? Editauros (talk) 15:46, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

  • An example of this is GameBoy Treecko, which is only possible via importing ?????(FC) to Bank. That's a fun one. ~waffledoctor87 14:59, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Paldea origin mark

So, Summary screen was shown in today's trailer, where Scarlet/Violet origin mark is visible - no surprises there, it's Terastal symbol: Asmod96 (talk) 20:00, 6 October 2022 (UTC) PsJd4n8.png
