:It's been pointed out to me that a useful rule of thumbs to distinguish between mention and reference is asking yourself whether you can easily replace Pokémon with Digimon (or with a random specific digimon) in the sentence. If the dialogue still works largely the same after making the change, then it's a mention (and doesn't warrant inclusion). If this significantly alter the sense of the dialogue, ruin the joke, require altering a lot of lines, or require hunting down a very specific digimon (instead of using any random digimon) to keep the sense intact, then what you have is a reference, and may warrant inclusion on the list. | |||
