DATA Sources

The information data on this page is based upon List of Pokémon by base stats and Pokémon Base Stats & Max Stats FAQ. I noticed inconstancies between these two pages, and I do not know how to verify this information. Any help would be appreciated. Jecowa 20:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Mistake in Average column

The Avg column still divides total by 6 (from the Gen II+ table) when it should divide by 5. I'm not sure how to edit the table to fix this. Blueapple128 19:57, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Total Base Stats

Shouldn't total base stats count Special stat double? It works for both special offense and defense.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 17:35, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

It's better to just stick with the defined stats. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:39, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Why not just show both? Current version just doesn't match reality.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 11:57, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
"Doesn't match reality"? There are five stats. If you sum those five stats, you get the stat total. RealityTM. Tiddlywinks (talk) 12:42, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
That's not very professional reaction. I meant that higher total number incorrectly represents which Pokemon really has higher stats. It treats physical and special stats differently, where in practise they work the same way and there still are 6 stats pretending to be 5.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 13:10, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
A Pokemon has 5 stats. Pretty simple. No need to complicate it. I understand how you believe your preference would be "better" in some ways, but it would also easily confuse people. It's not worth it. Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:00, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
I am not saying the other version is better, I am saying that both have thier advantages and would like to see both. Also I don't really understand how using the same method as the one used for all other generations would be confusing but ok. I'll just show you how it could look like:

(resetting indent)This should be simple.

This wiki covers Pokémon games. This page addresses the Generation I games. Generation I has five statistics. You can see this fairly clearly on images like to the right. Since these five stats are what's in the Generation I games, those are the stats that this page will cover.

We will not introduce a fake Gen I stat just because they changed things in Generation II and you don't like that you can't directly compare the pure stats. Many people know that stats were different in Gen I. So far, you're the first person who's had any problem with this "incongruence" between Gen I and later games. But if we changed it to what you want, I guarantee we'd quickly have many people complaining about that change.

The Generation I games were made with Pokemon only having 5 base stats. It was changed in Generation II. If you want something done about that, you may like to contact The Pokémon Company or Game Freak and perhaps see if they can do something about it in some future distribution of the Generation I games. In the meantime, it is not our place to make up stats just to make things "match". We describe the games as they are. So until your mail campaign bears fruit, we're stuck with 5 stats on this article.

You don't have to be so rude and treat me like an idiot while I'm just trying to discuss a simple issue. I know there are only 5 stats in the game, by showing me this you're just missing my point. I'm okay with not adding it on the main page if you really insist, so I'll just go compromise and I leave the table in the talk page.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 14:00, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
I do apologize for not curbing my frustration fully. From my point of view, I was more or less repeating myself and you managed to not address my fundamental point each time. I was trying to keep my responses simple, but since it wasn't working, I thought I needed to do something different (and just yelling "What part of there are only 5 stats don't you get" didn't seem like the right answer). So I tried hammering on it more extensively. I did not mean to treat you "like an idiot", but the rudeness that leaked through is on me. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:50, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Would it be so bad to have an extra column saying "BST (modern scale)" which accounts for the Special stat doing double duty? because sure it's just one number but it being offensive and defensive at the same time certainly makes it a 2-in-1 stat, and would be a bit more evident of the "true power" of a given pokemon.
