::Your argument relies on the assumption that Leaf is directly based on the protagonist from the unused Pokémon art. The creators never confirmed this, only that she drew inspiration from that character. This new Green is inspired by both the unused character and Leaf, that part is true, but "inspired by" is not the same as "is the same character". There is overwhelming evidence to support that Red and Blue are the same characters as the original, especially because they have appeared in multiple games before this.
