Spike Cannon and Sludge Bomb?

Serebii lists these moves as Pin Missile and Poison Sting. I know Serebii isn't a reliable source, but I am curious where this differentiation in information comes from and if anyone can/needs to double-check. Nutter Butter (talk) 17:54, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, I usually check the moves listed there and there is usually at least one mistake posted there. James called out for Spike Cannon and the Sludge Bomb move looks exactly the same as it was in the previous two series and I don't think Mareanie can learn Mud Shot or Mud Bomb. Marieanie's Gender

Meowth said that Marianie found James "Handsome" (Ikemen) on top of being clearly attracted to him. Not saying it absolutely confirms Mareanie's gender, but put a pin in that statement for now. Kohdok (talk) 19:00, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Uh... no. That confirms absolutely nothing. Don't assume gender because of behavioral patterns, because a guy can act like a girl, and the gender needs to be explicitly stated.--ForceFire 03:58, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Obviously it's female, come on people.. Tditdatdwt (talk) 16:46, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
This argument has played out on an inordinate amount of talk pages over the years, and it's not constructive to go through the whole song and dance all over again when it's not going to change anything. Bulbapedia has specific standards for determining anime Pokemon genders. Period. Implications, suggestions and "obviousness" don't matter unless those specific standards are met: explicit statement of the gender either in dialogue or by use of Attract. Trivia

"Mareanie is James's first Pokemon since Cacnea to affectionately attack its Trainer." I originally wrote it as being Carnivine which is the case as Carnivine was the last to be seen--BigDocFan (talk) 19:16, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Why do people keep getting rid of the "only one that isn't Grass" part of the trivia and citing Chimecho for it? I don't think Chimecho ever actually attacked James. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 20:12, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Chimecho used Wrap on James's eyes when it was excited. So it is the last SINCE Carnivine, not the last non-Grass one. Someone is trying to dodge it being taken down due to this trivium's lack of notability. I'm proceeding to delete it. --BlisseyandtheAquaJets (talk) 20:21, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
You're right about Wrap. However, policy states drought trivia is notable on anime pages. So as much as I disagree with that policy, the point is technically considered notable. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 20:29, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think Chimecho wrapping itself around James ever hurt him. Playerking95 (talk) 20:31, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, exactly- I never really saw that as being on the same level as Cacnea's hugs or Carnivine and Victreebel's chomping. Not to mention Chimecho almost never did that. I only recall it doing that in its debut episode, personally. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 21:09, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Chimecho would always cover up his eyes, causing him discomfort. HarmonytheRocketEeveon (talk) 00:18, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
I saw it's debut episode and James's was confused since he wasn't able to see, but he wasn't hurt. I don't know if it did it in other episodes, but if it did, I think I remember that James was annoyed that he couldn't see, probably because he wanted Chimecho to battle. But that may just be myself making that up in my head, if it happened outside of its debut. So again, it didn't hurt James like Victreebel, Cacnea and Carnivine did. Playerking95 (talk) 03:58, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Am I the only one who feels like this hand-wringing about whether it "hurt" James is irrelevant? The trivium is about them "attacking" him, and wrapping is clearly an attack, so it obviously counts as far as I can tell. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 06:09, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
But it's not really attacking him. A Pokemon can smack its body into another Pokemon, but that doesn't make it Tackle, or Take Down or Double-Edge. So that doesn't mean it was an attack, which means it could just be Chimecho showing affectionately by giving James its version of a hug. So it's not really hurting him at all and James never showed any sign that he was being hurt. Playerking95 (talk) 06:44, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Attacking someone and using a move on someone aren't the same thing. A Pokémon can still attack a person without using a move (Cacnea's hugs for example). I agree with Pumpkinking0192 that James getting hurt or not isn't relevant, Chimecho still showed its affection by attacking its Trainer. Satsjoe (talk) 13:30, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
But that wasn't an attack, if it wasn't a move, then it putting its scarf or whatever it is around James's head isn't an attack in any sense. Playerking95 (talk) 13:40, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Whether it is an attack, move, or not, it is still an obvious repetetive display of affection towards their trainer. I don't think Weezing, Magikarp, Mime Jr., Yamask, Amoonguss, or Inkay did this, so please stop arguing everyone. HarmonytheRocketEeveon (talk) 21:51, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

How about we change it to this? "Mareanie is James's first Pokémon since Carnivine to show affection repetitively to its Trainer." HarmonytheRocketEeveon (talk) 21:51, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

The trivia is fine as it stands now. "Attack" doesn't have to be taken so literally in this case, a Pokémon can attack somebody without using an actual move (attack). This whole argument is extremely trivial and we really don't need to spend more time on it. --Pokemaster97 06:27, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Yes, it can, but that wasn't an attack in any sense of the word. It was just a display of affection. Playerking95 (talk) 07:03, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Mareanie being affectionate

Is it ok to include this picture of Mareanie being affectionate? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Maybe.--Hamfart 13:18, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Toxic Spikes

In the italian version of SM016, when Mareanie and Meowth caught up Popplio and Rowlet, Mareanie attacked the two, with Meowth saying "Yes Mareanie, attack with your Toxic Spikes!", but it was stopped by Litten before using the move. Is it the same in the english version? We added it in its moves list with a "mentioned only" note. --Franky7 (talk) 12:40, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

So did Meowth actually say "Fielepunte"? Playerking95 (talk) 12:55, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Yes!--Franky7 (talk) 12:55, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
In that case, you can add it as an error, since it wasn't really called out in the original. Also, as a side note, please make sure to indent each new post comment on a section here with a :, with one extra one after each new post. So the second one would have one, the third one would have two, the fourth one would have 3, etc. Playerking95 (talk) 12:58, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Ok. We don't have this strictly schematic duty in Pokémon Central Wiki, only to indent to make the discussion more easy to read when needed (ex: no, :, no, : etc..).--Franky7 (talk) 13:13, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Watching the dub, I did at first think it was Toxic Spikes but it could just refer to the spikes on the top of Mareanie's head--BigDocFan (talk) 13:39, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Maybe, but what Meowth said is easly comprehendible.--Franky7 (talk) 13:40, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

Help with pronouns

I know this probably isn't a reason big enough to warrant discussion, but still. Now we treat Mareanie as a she in the article, but this part of sentence reads: "she was shown to be quite grumpy, as shown when she slapped Jessie's hand away when she first stroked it". Here, some inconsistency arises, as Mareanie is referred as as both she and it. Is it better to leave it this way because of the potential repetition of "she/her"? Or is it better to change "it" to "her" to preserve the female pronoun everywhere? I'm not a native speaker, so I don't know/feel, which way sounds better and more natural. Kikugi (talk) 03:51, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

You're right, "it" should be changed to "her". I've also changed "she" to "Jessie" to avoid possible confusion over who's doing what. Thanks for pointing it out! Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 05:44, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
Should the other Mareanie be referred to as male? I only watched the subbed version, and there, they called him "he", but I know that Bulbapedia's policy is against relying on fan subs, that's why I'm asking, if they call him "he" in the original. Right now, the article calls him "it". Kikugi (talk) 17:51, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
Oh, wait, the Differently colored Pokémon article also refers to him as he. I changed it here, too. Kikugi (talk) 17:53, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
