Evice and Greevil

Where in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness does it say that Evice wasn't the head of the original Cipher? I've played through the entire game and talked to everyone afterwards, and have been unable to find any source. - Jonah 17:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

It's never stated; just assumed as far as I know. Either Sherles or some lady at Pokémon HQ Lab says it. --Johans 18:41, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

OK. I found her, but she also didn't state that Evice wasn't the true head of Cipher. She just wondered it. And the other thing I found to be an indication that Cipher v.2 had been around for more than 5 years was the fact that Citidark Isle has been surrounded by violent waves for as long as anyone can remember. And if the researchers had been making the waves, they must have been there for a long time. --Jonah 20:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, here's that the lady says.

  • Blah blah blah Wes saves the day five years ago.
  • Back then the leader was named Evice
  • Lady wonders if Greevil replaced Evice, or if Evice was a step below Greevil.

He's the only Cipher member (other than Naps when he has the Shadow Teddiursa) whose entire team is made up of Shadow Pokémon. He's also got creepy eyes.... Diachronos 17:32, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

It is stated by Sherles in an easily missed conversation at one point that they "arrested a man five years ago named Evice" who "appeared to be the head of Cipher." He then tells you that they discovered "Evice was only the boss of the Orre Region" which means two things: one, Greevil was always the boss of Cipher, and two, Cipher likely has operations in regions other than Orre.

It's likely that Greevil, not Evice, is also the man who made a fortune in The Under's mines as per an old man in said town's PokéMart in Colosseum as well as the true commissioner of Realgam Tower, as Evice was never mentioned at any point to have possessed any kind of wealth or power outside of being Phenac's Mayor. --The Great Butler 01:57, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

It's also possible that the title of "Grand Master" was an allusion to the TCG Grand Masters, in terms of implying that Greevil was always the one "holding all the cards", which, indeed, is supported by the fact that Greevil fights with 7 Shadow Pokémon (a common number of cards in a hand), 4 of which are Legendary (not unlike the way the TCG Grand Masters were themed based on Legendaries), and all of which by far surpass Evice's "ultimate" Shadow Pokémon in terms of sheer strength and rarity. --VW5rbm93bj8/Pw== (dEBMaw==) 00:23, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Lower catch rates?

I might just be insanely lucky, but I think the game designers DRASTICALLY lowered the catch rates of the three birds. I caught them all in UNDER 3 BALLS. One of them was only at half health, and had no status conditions, and I caught it in one ball! Lugia's catch rate seems to be normal, though, as he took me 53 balls =/. I haven't played Colosseum yet, but with the three dogs being present, I think they would have done the same thing. Anybody else experience this?

Yeah, I also couldn't help but notice that two of the Shadow Legendary Beasts in Colosseum were far, far easier to catch (everytime I've played through it, which is quite a few over the years) than their roaming counterparts in Johto and Kanto (with Mean Look used to stop them fleeing, so it's not just the fact that they keep running off that makes them seem harder). If this is true, it is likely that it was done because these legendaries are powerful, possess a move that can quite easily result in it KOing itself (Shadow Rush), and they form the latter part of an already tough tough opposing team - increased catch rates to make the battle fairer, in effect. Legendaries have always had a habit of destroying even full-health teams if you don't catch them fast enough. Although, similar to XD's Lugia as stated above, Raikou seems to be an exception. Again, this is a pattern I've seen across all my various saves of Colluseum - Entei and Suicune are suprisingly easy to snag, Raikou is pretty hard. It might be worth pointing out that Raikou also happens to be the last of the encountered Shadow Beasts in the storyline. --Raylax 14:49, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't know, but when I played through Colosseum and XD a few years ago, I didn't notice any help from the game's side. Every legendary was quite hard to catch; I don't know about Lugia since I used the Master Ball on it :p UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 14:59, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
