As long as Yoshi is on here, I think Luigi should be mentioned as well. He also originated from an April Fools Day joke... I think the same year as the Yoshi (although for whatever reason, he's a lot less known than the Yoshi joke). It's rumoured that the joke was from Nintendo Power, although I've never seen it printed in there. However, I know that the joke was real... it was on Nintendo's website... along with a fake screenshot to go along with it. I even printed it out many years ago.
