I was just watching this episode today, and i read the article and it says in the trivia section that it is unknown how they knew who did not get off the boat. Is it possible that they questioned the passengers and the Magikarp Salesman said he did not see the kids he sold a magirkarp to, and that Gentleman or his wife could have said they did not see the kid that he traded with o his friends? :I believe they normally keep a record of everyone who boarded a ship, so they could see who's accounted for if there's a shipwreck. Either way it's all speculation.
