Tail Attack

What did Aipom use? I have Mega Punch...but now I'm not sure. It could have been Iron Tail or something. Anyone know? -Sketchies 21:35, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

It did something with its tail to deflect the Pokéball in AG180. I'm not sure if that was an attack though. (I don't have the latest episode yet.) --FabuVinny 21:38, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
It was Mega Punch. Brock said it himself. --Rubyrulez 05:39, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
In the dub, Brock said it was Focus Punch, not Mega Punch. Dingbat 12:58, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Aipom better have an evolution in Diamond and Pearl, otherwise this will be Ash's lamest Pokémon catch yet.--Pokencyclopedia 09:36, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Isn't She?

Do we know that Ash's Aipom is definitely a girl? There seems to be no mention of gender anywhere else. Dingbat 23:09, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I doubt it. Gender is very rarely indicated in Pokemon, and usually only when breeding comes up (IE - we know Ash's Charizard is male because it was interest in a female, Tracey's Marill is a girl because it laid an egg). It seems to be the original author's idea. --Zeta 05:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

If a main character (Haruka) says so in the anime (AG182), it's good enough for me. - 振霖T 07:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Much as I hate to bring up the gender debate again, in the English dub of "Aipom and Circumstance", they refer to Aipom as potentially becoming King - not Queen... Have the English and Japanese versions ever had such a difference in canon? Dingbat 13:05, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm the wrong guy to seek an answer to that question, but I do know that in that same dubbed episode there was a female person that complained "I want to be King" in response to Aipom stealing the crown. Does that mean anything to you guys?--Pokencyclopedia 03:18, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Ash's Aipom is a girl. In the recent episode 'Pikachu's In charge!' It hung out with the other girl pokemon and dressed up in a dress. Dont beleive me? Go to serebii.net and look up the pictures for the episode I mentioned.Rioludude 14:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Boys in dresses isn't anything new. Ash has twice and James has multiple times. Haruka's line is far more concrete evidence. --FabuVinny T-C-S 18:56, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
You know, given the aforementioned line in the original, I'm amazed there's even a debate on this. Surely any time there's a explicit contradiction, original beats dub? -Alan
Hikari confirmed it further in DP048, the clip episode, explicitly referring to Aipom as a girl. - unsigned comment from Zeta (talkcontribs)
Why do people keep on stating the gender is unknown for Aipom? TWO completely separated characters confirmed it. It's unusual for the series, but c'mon. Aipom is a female. --Zeta 16:39, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

The Buizel/Aipom trade

Okay. I'm going to be mature about this and ask why the mention of the Buizel/Aipom trade should not be mentioned in the article. There are plenty other triva sections that include things involving the fan community. So why is it not notable? --ケンジガール 07:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Maybe it's just the Wikipedia part of me suggesting it be removed. I don't really think fan anything belongs in a article. What fans think isn't fact. What fans hope for isn't fact. The only Aipom trading that needs to be mentioned is that Nozomi suggested that Satoshi get traded to Hikari. -Sketchies 11:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Maybe spare it a sentence or two? If the sentence about Ambipom gets in... -Alan
That shouldn't really be there either. -Sketchies 23:57, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Lol@ the new warning notice in the article. As if "It's not going to happen" is itself anything other than an opinion! -Alan

The trade happened! Go to the Serebiiforums, it confirms the trade happened! Missingno. Master 11:38, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[smug mode] Now don't certain people feel silly? [/smug mode] Cassius335 11:42, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Absolutely not. All this means is that... Jimmy and Typhlosion may appear in the Sinnoh Conference and face Ash. *hopeful* TTEchidna 00:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Dawn's Aipom?

I'm not proposing the move yet, but.. look at DP055's title. I sniff a trade going on. TinaTheKirlia ♥ 22:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Yea. I want Ash to get a Buizel, but I don't want him to lose Aipom. --Theryguy512 22:38, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Aw what. No. Totodile has to come back. PLEASE. TTEchidna 23:37, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
We've had cryptic titles before. Anybody remember when everyone thought Psyduck was going to evolve when the title of EP091 (Goodbye Psyduck! Come Again Golduck) was revealed?
Anyway, for now, keep the pages as they are. If the episode proves that Ash and Dawn do indeed trade, then these pages should probably be moved to Dawn's Aipom and Ash's Buizel. Until then, we'll just have to wait and see, because I know I personally don't want another James/Gardenia's Cacnea fiasco going on here. --PAK Man Talk 00:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Speaking of page moves, the redirect page Ash's Buizel has too much of an edit history for a simple move to be sucessful. It'll have to be deleted to make way for a move should what many believe hold true. --Shiningpikablu252 03:45, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Still, its pretty obvious, and the Psyduck/Golduck ep - NOTHING to do with it! -KPF

No? The title itself was pretty much "HEY LOOK, PSYDUCK'S GOING AWAY AND HERE COMES GOLDUCK." and then during the episode "PSYCHE!" They may not say "PSYCHE!" this time, but who knows? Maybe Dawn'll try to challenge Veilstone Gym with Buizel, and Ash'll challenge a local contest first. Then they both blow it and decide to go back to what they do best. TTEchidna 04:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I realise that might be sarcasm, but Dawn isn't registered for Gyms. Cassius335 22:44, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
It's not that hard to get registered. Anyway, remember the recent Team Rocket "respective roads" episode? They got back together in that and there is still the possibility that Ash won't trade Aipom in the end. Just be wary until the episode airs. --FabuVinny T-C-S 18:52, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Guys... It's official! I have recieved word from serebiiforums that Ash's Aipom is now Dawn's Aipom, and Dawn's Buizel is now Ash's Buizel!

~~Weedle_McHairybug~~

Wait, what was that little word I just heard you say???? Speculation page??? Speculation is not good enough! --Theryguy512 13:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I didn't say "Speculation Page on this talk thread, I said "Serebiiforums", besides, it's also on the episode review thread as well.

~~Weedle McHairybug~~

It's or She

Given we've already established Aipom is a girl, why is the article still reffering to her as "it" in places?

Aipom is NOT a Girl! --Theryguy512 23:51, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Because it's not - oh wait. That's right. It HAS been confirmed by both May and Dawn. (They referred to Aipom as a 'she' in the Japanese version...) So. Not every freaking Pokémon has to be a guy. >__>;; Tina 23:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Tina is right. Both May and Dawn referred Aipom as "she". BUT, stop change "she" to "it", "it" to "she". It's is annoying.--Haruka uzumaki 12:24, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

When you chnage from 'it' to 'she' and someone else changes from 'she' to 'it', and you change it back, I'd call that a revert war... Agent 448δ | DP | 12:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, and we need to stop it before the weapons come out. Cassius335 18:35, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Aipom is a boy! They refer to Aipom potentially becoming a king. Shiny?! 00:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

That was in the dub. The Japanese version of Aipom and Circurmstances explicitly calls Aipom a girl. Netto-kun 00:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

The English version takes priority! (Except in Japan...) Shiny?! 00:52, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

No, it doesn't! The Japanese version is the original version, they created the series. Anything they say about the anime, it's true, because they are the creators.

Netto-kun 01:00, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

If you live in Japan, and I don't think anyone here does. Shiny?! 01:15, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Original > Dub. Why? Because in the original version, there's a much higher chance that they MEANT it. Dubs tend to have more mistakes, but I could be WRONG. Tinaδ 02:14, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Shiny, Aipom's a girl. It wore a dress. May said "It's a girl, right?", Dawn said it too. The dub just dropped the ball there, and besides, if it may have been correct to be queen, I've certainly heard many girls say they're king of something. TTEchidna 02:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
In addition, in the dub, every competitor in the AG182 competition claimed they wanted to be "king", even the ladies. I don't recall hearing the word "queen" once in that episode. --Shiningpikablu252 03:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

But did they ever say in the English version that Aipom is a girl? If they didn't, that isn't canon outside of Japan. Shiny?! 13:14, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Will you please just go with the majority on this one? Aipom is a girl, end of story.
(God, I hope they dub the clip show) Cassius335 11:47, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
We have absolutely no proof whatsoever. Shiny?! 13:34, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, we do have proof. Both May and Dawn to Aipom as being a girl. Netto-kun 13:36, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
That's in the Japanese version, so it doesn't prove anything for people outside Japan. Shiny?! 13:40, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
So unless you can find proof in the American version, you are completely speculating when you refer to Aipom being a girl. And wearing girl's clothes doesn't count as a good enough reason. After all, James has worn girl's clothes repeatedly. Shiny?! 13:43, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
May you please just go with the majority on this one? Aipom is a girl, end of story. Netto-kun 13:57, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
If a detail is given in the Japanese version, then it is most definately canon. If the dub contradicted it, that would be worth mentioning but it has already been shown that it doesn't. --FabuVinny T-C-S 19:12, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't believe it. Shiny Noctowl does it again! How could you say what's said in Japan doesn't count? By what I recollect, THEY MADE THE SHOW! There for what they say overides the dub. There's proof in the Japanese version. We don't need proof in the American version. We mention that Sudowoodo uses Take Down even though the dub said it was Double Edge. May and Dawn said that Aipom was a girl. Maybe not in the dub but they did in the original so its true. I can't even believe you'd bring up such an idiotic argument... Oh wait! Yes I can! --ケンジガール 22:08, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

HEY GUYS!! LOOK HERE: The dub confirms Ash's Aipom and Dawn's Buneary as female!! It's in the trivia of DP039. Ha!! And, OF COURSE AIPOM and BUNEARY ARE GIRLS!!! -うずまき ハルカ 17:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

And, the dub sucks!! It doesn't mean absolutely nothing!! The Japanese is the original! ORIGINAL!! The English dub is always wrong! -うずまき ハルカ 17:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

The dub has confirmed what the original has told us twice. So now it's 100% that Aipom is female. And quit the dub bashing, please. Cassius335 18:43, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Protection Request

Until DP055 airs, I think that this page (and Dawn's Buizel) should be protected.....--Theryguy512 00:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Picture

Now that the move is done shouldn't we get a pic of Dawn and Aipom instead of Ash and Aipom???? --Theryguy512 16:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

We can keep the Ash picture and the one we currently have in the infobox will do until a good picture of Dawn with Aipom appears. --FabuVinny T-C-S 16:32, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Unprotect

Since it's already shown that Ash got Buizel and Dawn got Aipom, why are the articles still protected? Netto-kun 16:56, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

See my reasons on Buizel's talk page. They apply here as well. --Shiningpikablu252 16:58, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
When I protected it, I set it to expire about two hours from now. It'd allow enough time for everything to be sorted out and the initial... ahem, excitement, to wear off. TTEchidna 21:38, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Besides, Missingno. Master is trying to defend a bad edit. If we were going to plot-spoil Japan--a practice that was largely stopped after the Cacnea debacle--Argy's edit would be the way to go. --Shiningpikablu252 22:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Why do you two keep spelling 'proof' as 'proff'? And it looks like the evolution glow to me. Come next week, looks like this page gets a name change. Cassius335 22:49, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
And it better be next week if this holds true. I don't think anyone wants an edit war mess close to what we had with the Cacnea debacle. --Shiningpikablu252 22:53, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that! I guess I just spell it that way all the time by accident..... --Theryguy512 22:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

It's something new, that's for sure. Whether it's a new attack or an evolution, it's new. P: Tina δ 23:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Problem solved. I created the page Dawn's Ambipom. It redirects to this article. My proposal is that both this page and Dawn's Ambipom are protected until next Thursday. Does this sound OK? Missingno. Master 23:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

So you're basically saying you want to protect the main article and this talk page but not the redirect you created? I assume you mean this talk page when you referred to "this page" since if we protected the redirect, we'd have to delete the redirect in order to move this page should we need to move the page, making protecting the redirect a bit pointless...--Shiningpikablu252 23:27, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

We should protect Aipom and Ambipom. I notified TTEchidna already. --Theryguy512 23:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I said I don't know. Seriously. Tina δ 20:02, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, the video's uploaded at Filb.de here, and as for where exactly they got it... well, jeez, it's an episode preview that they uploaded on Thursday. Pokémon episodes air Thursday at 7PM JST, which is 10AM GMT. Since Filb's located in Germany, they uploaded it at approximately 11 AM local time there, which is of course 4 AM where I am. So... pretty much, what they did was record it straight from TV and upload it to the internet. And I don't imagine, even if uploading what is more or less a commercial for next week's episode is copyright infringement, that TPC would take action... since it's basically spreading the word to WATCH POKÉMON!
And of course, this article's protected from moves and edits UNTIL the episode begins to air next Thursday, as in, the 20th at 10 AM GMT. Striking the move war before it happens. TTEchidnaGSDS! 21:44, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

New Attack?

I remember that it has used an unknown move against Meditite in the Gym battle in DP067, anyone know what's that move?-Billy4b2004 09:35, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

It was Double Hit. Notice how Ambipom hit Meditite twice. JmathTalk 17:57, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

You mean the bit where Ambipom blocks Meditite's Drain Punch? That wasn't an attack. - Cassius335 13:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes,I mean that attack.But I don't think she could block Drain Punch if that wasn't an attack.-Billy4b2004 03:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Ambipom Leaving?

Just wondering: Should the page be semi protected until movie 12 premieres? The official site leaves Ambipom off of Dawn's team of Pokemon, which is leading to speculation Ambipom may be leaving the anime in a future episode. Myzou 07:58, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I didn't see Mamoswine, Buizel, Gliscor there as well. Does that mean they will leave too? No. It doesn't proves anything. Ҝəυzø8 08:21, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
As I stated on PokeCommunity, I'm not referring to the poster or images based from the poster. The official Movie 12 site has biographies of the characters, and on Hikari's page, Ambipom is absent. Myzou 09:47, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
They probably just couldn't fit all the names. Ash doesn't have any Pokémon listed. Does that mean he released all of them? --ケンジガール 10:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
I think it has more to with the fact that Ambipom is nowhere. Everyone else has been advertised in the movie in some way except Ambipom. Pikachu (confirmed), Chimchar/Monferno (poster), Staraptor (poster), Grotle (poster), Gliscor (Pokeball Movie capsule), Buizel (picture of other Pokemon with Johto Starters and Pichu), Piplup (confirmed), Buneary (movie poster), Mamoswine (Pokeball Movie Capsule), Pachirisu (picture of other Pokemon with Johto Starters and Pichu), Croagunk, Happiny, and Sudowoodo (picture of other Pokemon with Johto Starters and Pichu). Ambipom does not exist anywhere in relation to Movie 12. But it doesn't need to be protected only gun jumpers would edit and put in speculation. --Dman dustin 09:21, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Well the article is protected and well you know what happens next (the worst part). Waiting.

Also, I Wonder what would happen now if Ash had Ambipom. I Want Ambipom To Stay. Chime Chime! 15:56, 3 April 2009 (UTC).

Well, the Diamond & Pearl series seems to be speeding up a bit (How many episodes between Ash's most recent 2 Gyms and Dawn's Contests?), so maybe by the time of Movie 12, it could be in a Battle Frontier series, and Ambipom could be dropped off with a prof... Ash' Primeape and Dawn's Ambipom

I found a few similarities between Primeape and Ambipom

They are both obtained by their trainer in second and final stage.
They are both primate-based.
They both left, because of their talent for a certain sport.

So what do you think? Bigtukker 16:38, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

  1. No. Dawn had Aipom.
In trivia
In Trivia.--FF(editstalk) 14:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah, you're right, but the last two, are they OK?
And how about
They both had the habit to steal Ash' hat? Bigtukker 17:29, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
They're already in the trivia.--FF(editstalk) 15:32, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Preferability

Is it worth mentioning that Aipom left Ash, because it prefered contests, then left Dawn because it prefered Ping-Pong? MAMOSWINEPwnz! (Torngentleman2) 13:36, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

In the trivia section? I would say no since both of those are already covered well enough in the summary. --HoennMaster 06:11, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Move box thing

I didn't know where else to ask this but: Any particular reason why it is unknown when Ambipom/Aipom first used focus punch, swift, fury swipes and scratch? I'm pretty sure it's not unknown, just like how Gliscor's screech said "prior to A breed stampede" but the templates says when the move was first used not the exact moment the Pokemon learned the move. If a Pokemon who debuts shows that it knows hyper beam isn't that when the move was first used. Because if not then every move basically known by every one of the article's Pokemon should be unknown unless it's explicitly said to have learned it like Ash's Pikachu's iron tail.--Dman dustin 11:30, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

It's simple as someone filling out the episode it was first used in. Just wait. tc²₆tc26 11:42, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
The person who added the template didn't know, if you know then add it. --HoennMaster 23:12, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Released or training?

The Ambipom disambiguation page says that Dawn gave it away, but the template of her Pokémon calls it in training. Ash’s Pokémon in training are not listed as given away or released on the respective dab pages.( Charizard, Squirtle, Primeape) The article here just says that it left the group. --LaprasBoi 20:03, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it was released for training, just like Primeape. --αワニノコ 20:43, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
If it was released, it wouldn't still be in the opening theme.--Tavisource 20:45, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Ambipom was NOT released. I just watched the episode again today, and there was nothing to indicate Dawn released it. It's the same way that Ash did not release Charizard, he just let it train in Charific Valley. Ambipom still belongs to Dawn. TJ Spyke 15:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Ambipom and Buneary

It is mentioned in the article that Dawn's Buneary and Ambipom have two similarities, however I discovered another two. One: Both are the only members of Dawn's party of whom the gender is known, and they both appeared to be female. Two: They both fell in love, while the others didn't yet. Ambipom fell in love with Lila's Delcatty and Buneary with Ash's Pikachu. Bigtukker 10:11, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Gender is mentioned in the main body of the article, and falling in love is somewhat opinionated and shippy, is it not? — THE TROM — 10:15, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, you have a point. But in both cases the attraction is very clear and Ambipom felling in love with Lila's Delcatty is due to the ability Cute Charm, so that is objective information. - unsigned comment from Bigtukker (talkcontribs)
Buneary's isn't though. — THE TROM — 10:58, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Article needs more information?

For some reason, this is listed under articles needing more information. Is there a reason for this? If so, the template should be put up. --RiverAura 02:20, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

One of the templates must be doing it. Which one it is, I haven't the foggiest. --ケンジガール 02:23, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
It's the move template. The episode when it first used a certain move is still unknown. tc²₆tc26 03:04, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Thing for taking hats

Think that might be an allusion to Ambipom's Pickup? --ケンジガール 02:18, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

I think that's a bit of a stretch, but you could probably include that in the article anyways. ZestyCactus 02:21, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Well we did say Croagunk's ability for sensing danger meant he had Anticipation. This really isn't any different. --ケンジガール 02:24, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Trivia

Ambipom took 73 episodes to evolve just like Ash's other confirmed female Pokémon (Bayleef). This could also go on Bayleef's page--Burgundy 01:07, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

O's Ambipom

I think that, as Ambipom now belongs to O, Dawn's Ambipom should be switched to O's Ambipom, just like Casey's Beedrill and Sabrina's Haunter. 08.23, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

It stays where it is. Just like Ash's Primeape, Brock's Vulpix, and James's Cacnea. We are not having a huge argument be made over it being moved. --ケンジガール 08:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Ambipom doesn't belong to O, Dawn just let Ambipom train with him. Satoshi101 02:42, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Ash's Aipom

Ash didn't own an Ambipom to begin with, so shouldn't the section "With Ash" be moved to Ash's Aipom? Like even though Ash traded Raticate back for his Butterfree, it's still listed as Ash's Raticate. Satoshi101 02:26, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

No. Ambipom is the same Aipom he owned, whether or not it evolved in his care doesn't mean it's a different Pokemon. Ataro 02:31, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Raticate was owned by a minor character that was never seen again. That's why it's Ash's Raticate. Aipom was also Dawn's Pokémon for a short amount of time. --ケンジガール 02:36, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Well it's not accurate saying that Ambipom was originally Ash's. Satoshi101 02:46, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

She was originally Ash's. Just as an Aipom. And it specifically states that in the article. --ケンジガール 02:49, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
